    Hi
Has anybody recently travelled between Bangalore and Kannur (Kerala). From my research i found there are 2 routes i.e. 1) Bangalore - Mysore - Gundulpet - Wayanad - Kannur and 2) Bangalore - Mysore - Hunsur - Poonampet - Kannur

Can anyone who has recently travelled let me know which route is better? Need this info as i plan to drive down this weekend.

    Thanks in advance

thanks Santoosh, but any particular reason for suggesting option 1. Asking this as Route 2 is shorter, but i am totally unsure about the route quality...

I travelled by bus last weekend over there, roads on Karnataka side (for once) are very good! The road on andhra side till Ananthpur is good after that construction starts. Don't know how the road from ananthpur to Kurnool is as I was deep in slumber

Take the Palladam route to hit Tiruppur and follow the GQ route all the way to Chennai.

                        Tiruppur-Bhavani-Salem-Thoppur-Krishnagiri-Vaniyambadi-Chennai.

                        Smooth, comfortable, fast..

(except for 50 kms before Salem.. Construction still going on there.

Well.. you did say Fast and comfortable..

If you'd mentioned scenic and leisurely, I'd have suggested something else.

And riding back is the best way. Shouldn't take you more than 9 hours or so.. Good luck!

Did the Bangalore-Salem-CBE-Palghat stretch sometime back on my R1. Here are my trip stats:

Depart: Nagpal's Pump, Residency Road at 9.45 AM.
Hosur - 10.45, Krishnagiri - 11.15 (stopped for some awesome Pongal in A2B ), Salem - 12.15 PM (Tanked up), Coimbatore - 2 PM (Had a late lunch here, tanked up again), Palghat - 3.15, Alathur - 3.45. Total journey took me 6 hours, in blistering heat.

Return journey was a little quicker, owing to a continuous run between Salem and Bangalore.

The route is a belter, could keep speeds of 170-180 for prolonged periods. Did notice some wrong way two wheelers, scared the hell out of me. Construction still going on till/after Sankari about 50 km or so from Salem, while heading towards Kerala. After that it's pretty quick. Had the usual annoying traffic nearing Coimbatore, on the old 2 lane roads, but that was expected.

On the way back, had a fledgeling eagle smash into my visor at 160 something kph. Somehow kept my balance, and stopped immediately. I had blood all over my leathers, and My Arai's visor was in three pieces.

PS: The distance to my farmhouse near Alathur used to be 44x kms from my house in Bangalore. But now, my tripmeter read 470 something to the same point. Is it because of some extra distance that we are covering due to all the new byepasses built around the towns in TN?

Oh, really fortunate that nothing happened to you and you could keep your balance, though I still can't believe how that was possible at 160kmph. (Salutes ARAI and your skill )
