Route for Bangalore to Theni (Via Kodaikanal road)
Hi guys,
I just completed a 450 km ride from Bangalore to Theni via salem (NH7). The road condition is perfect and smooth. I didn't come across any Speed Hump except few near salem as the road has some dangerous curves. The road between Bangalore and Salem is so nice. I started my trip at 6.45a.m Old Airport Road. I reached salem by 9.50a.m which includes 35 mins break. If I had ridden my bike continuously without taking a break, it would have been only 2 and half hours. The view of the road after Dharmapuri is hilarious. The road goes between two mountains. I was tired before seeing the view. After looking at it , I was so enthusiastic. I hit the top speed around 119 km/hr. From Salem to Dindigul, the road condition was good but there were some spots like a repair work on holes. It just lifted my bike around a feet on the road when I rode my bike in 100 km/hr. And One good thing on this road is, there are bus stops for every 25 km which has cement seats. We can take rest there. I just lied my body on the cement seats when i had sore back. During my entire trip, I maintained the speed between 90 - 110 Km/hr. NH7 will be a perfect one for people who want to hit the top speed. It took 7 and 1/2 hours to reach 450 kms which includes 90 mins break.

Chennai - Mysore - Wayanad - Kozhikode
Hello ppl,
Did a 3 day ride from Chennai to Kozhikode and back this weekend. Some updates on the different stretches in this 720 km route.
NH4/NH 46 (Chennai - Krishnagiri)
This stretch was spotless all the way till Krishnagiri. No bumps whatsoever. However, in the direction towards Chennai, there were a few broken parts (though manageable) here and there in the last 100 kms approaching Chennai.
NH7 (Krishnagiri - Hosur)
Good roads but not as smooth as the roads until Krishnagiri. No surprise potholes.
Toll road (Nice road) connecting Electronic city and Mysore road
The road has a lot of patchworks done recently and is not as silky smooth as it was. But cruising around 100 shouldn't be an issue.
SH17 (B'lore - Mysore)
No bumps/potholes whatsoever. Perfect road all the way until Mysore. Of course, barring those speedbreakers!
NH212 (Mysore - Kozhikode)
Mysore - Nanjangud is P.A.T.H.E.T.I.C. Though they have started making patchworks somewhere in the middle, those 25 kms are a real ordeal.
Nanjangud - Gundalpet, in contrast, remained a breeze. Not even a few bumps here and there.
Gundulpet - Bathery is good. The forest road has a few dents over the surface but none of them are threatening. Bathery - Kalpetta has a couple of real bad craters you need to be watchful of. Otherwise patchworks have been made in this stretch.
Thamarassery ghat road is in a MESS. Roads are great till you enter the ghats. As you get pass a bend or two, you find nothing but broken roads all the way till you get down closer to Adivaram (the base). Watch out for oncoming vehicles in the opposite direction to avoid potholes in their way. Avoid riding at night/poor light. Patchwork just seems to have been started.
Hope this is helpful..... and I took the road less traveled!

Riding from Hyderabad on NH7, want to bypass Bangalore and get to Hosur for my onward journey to Erode.
Is it a good idea to take NH207 at Devanahalli and go via Hoskote, Chikka Tirupati and Bagalur to Hosur to rejoin NH7? I will be passing through this road around 8am to 10am. Need to know the road conditions and traffic condition.
Appreciate the reply.

HiOriginally posted by ayushkant View PostHey Thanks a lot for the detailed info
We'll be taking Kumta-Murudeshwar-Mangalore-Puttur-Sulya-Sampaje-Coorg
Are the roads from Kumta to Mangalore good on this route??
I've heard there are a lot of potholes open on the NH17 route...
Is there any other better roads other than the one shortlisted above?
And how about the roads from Mangalore to Wayanad?
Thanks for the help
Not sure about what the roads are like around Kumta, but I do know for a fact that there are quite a lot of potholes around Bhatkal - bad enough to slow down people travelling in cars - and that repair work was scheduled to begin around the time I was on the coast.
Another thing: The stretch from Udupi to Mangalore can get quite a lot of traffic, and be a little boring. So, unless you really have to touch Mangalore, you can turn off at Udupi, go through Manipal, and then take Karkala - Moodbidri - BC Road. As I said in my initial update, Karkala - Moodbidri is a nice country road, good surface, and a pleasure to ride on. Moodbidri - BC Road is a little rough, but it's a shortish stretch - 25 km, and shouldn't give you too much trouble.
As for Mangalore - Wayanad, I've only ever done the Wayanad trip, from the Bangalore side (Bangalore - Mysore - Sulthan Bathery route). But that was a couple of years ago, so no idea about latest conditions after Mysore. Sorry.Last edited by byker7; 12-22-2010, 10:52 AM.

The 1st section (Devanhalli - Hoskote) is fine. It is often used by people in the Whitefield area to get to the airport.Originally posted by MadMax46 View PostAny 1 ???? attached are two images of the route am talking of.
It is a narrow undivided road. If you are going early in morning then be careful if it is foggy like today.
From Hoskote to Hosur, there are a lot of potholes. You can manage by going slow.
However, if you are crossing early in the morning, the outer ring road will not have much traffic and you can easily cruise by.

Hi Ramesh,Originally posted by rameshmadhavan View PostHi...hope things are fine out there...howz ur ride happening
Sorry could not reply earlier. Just got back yesterday after a pretty long break at Kerala. Did not continue up to Kanyakumari as planned after facing the chaotic traffic in Kerala due to the Sabarimala pilgrimage and school holiday season combined.
Will post a thread with some pics shortly. How is your ride?
Take Care. Ride Safe,
Cheers
