Yeaterday had a trip on my pulsar 220F to the Nagarjuna sagar dam and the nearby waterfall from Hyderabad.

Since this is a road experince thread I want to say that the road though with some patch work is very good.
I was travelling all the way at a speed of 80+ but still the road seemed to be inviting. It was because that my bike is very new and have'nt completed even the first service that I had to force myself to below 90 speeds. Very happy with the road.

Again planning after my servicing is over to exploit my bike potential.....

      • Road report from bangalore to hogenakkal :
Bangalore-Kanakpura: Road not in the best state but has improved a lot since the last time I rode on this road.

Kanakpura-Kodihalli-Anchetty-Hogenakkal: Dont expect good roads at all.The roads are very narrow and at places road up gradation work is in progress.Be very careful if you are travelling at night. For most parts the left side of the road is dug up( about 2 ft) for widening.

Hogenakkal-Pennagaram: The newly laid asphalt are very rider friendly

Pennagaram-Anchetty: The forests roads are very inviting. At places you need to make a turn on roads which are 3-4 ft.So have to be very careful. For the 40 km stretch you may hardly find 3-4 people crossing your sight. So not advisable to do it solo or at night. After 20kms or so the dam has collapsed so need to do some off roading literally into the forest.

Anchetty-Denkanikottai-Hosur: Good single lanes very much doable even at night.

Hosur -Bangalore: Part of GQ ,So butter smooth, but traffic density increses.

        • The Trichur - Edappal - Kuttippuram - Kottakal stretch is now completed and is an absolute delight to ride in. Recently had a ride upto Gudalur via this route. Cochin - Kodungallur route via NH17 has also been patched up so that it is now much much better but still no comparison to the NH47. While riding back from Gudalur I saw that the Cochin -> Trichur section of the Chalakudi flyover had been open for traffic thus raising hope that the Chalakudi flyover would be completed very soon thus making the Cochin - Trichur section a mere hour's ride,

              • Hey,

The best route to Udupi would be Bangalore-Hassan-Sakleshpur-Uppinangadi-B C Road- Mangalore- Surathkal- Katpadi-Udupi.

Till Mangalore you can take NH 48 as it is newly laid. Ghats have been repaired and its a beautiful strech to go now.

From Mangalore till udupi the road widening is in progress, but still you can go.. If not Mangalore-Karkala-Udupi can be done

                  • Im planning to leave for trissur, guruvayur today or tomorrow via mysore, wayanad and kalpetta. A heads up on the road conditions as well as political scenario woud be highly appreciated. Ive heard of the strike in KL for tomorrow and I want to know whether its OK to travel tomorrow or not.

Any suggestion of a better\shorter route is also appreciated.

you can keep this as one of the options: Udupi-Manipal-Karkala-Ujire-Dharmasthala-Gundya-Sakleshpura-Hassan-Kunigal-Nelamangala/Magadi-Bangalore
The road conditions are a bit average till Karkala, past that good single lanes, the ghat have also been reconditioned a bit ( dont know how long it stays like that). The distance is the same if not +/- 10-15 kms.

It would be better if you postpone the ride to Saturday. The strike is almost confirmed and is declared by the ruling party, so there is no guarrantee on safety or any roadside amenities for the ride.

Also if you are riding via Mysore, why not take the Bandipur - Mudumalai - Gudalur - Nilambur - Manjeri - Kottakkal - Edappal - Kunnamkulam - guruvayur route? The road is excellent all the way from Gudalur to Guruvayur.

                        • ^^^ Thanks a lot man. Few more questions if you dont mind....Now, supposing I go ahead with the trip: I heard that the bandh is supposed to end on the dot at 6pm. Is it true? Can I find help\hotels\petrol after 6pm? How safe is it to travel after dusk, if at all? And is it better to go via salem, coimbatore if I decide to travel tomorrow?

I was also looking into the route you mentioned. Looks like its the better and shorter route.

It is supposed to end, but you never know. After 6 hotels and petrol would be reopened in major towns or cities, but in smaller areas a day of hartal is seen more or less as a public holiday. As regards travelling after dusk, the traffic is quite crazy and there wont be any amenities. Even the tea shops shutting down very late, shut down by around 10, besides since it is a Hartal day most shops would stay shut.

                              • Just came back after a trip from Trivandrum-Cochin Trip(via Tvm-Kottarakara-Adoor-Chengannur-Thiruvalla-Changanasherry-Alleppy-Cherthala-Cochin) . This is a road update of the route!

                                • Trivandrum to Chengannur (MC Road) is fabulous! no probs til chengannur!
                                • From chengannur to Changanasherry, the road is pretty messed up!And there are some new speed breakers bulit! So be careful if dricing at night!
                                • Again,The road is pretty good from Changanasherry to Alleppy! There mit be a highway petrol with a speed tracker. The speed limit is 60kmph!
                                • The crappy road again starts from Alleppy, upto Cherthala!
