  • HI Guys, My Unicorn needs a front tyre change.
I have the spoke wheels, hence tube less won't work.
So what will be the best option for me?

I got both tyres changed for my spokes Fiero F2 last week-tube type only.
Do let me know your stock tyre specs&what kind of tyre you are looking at.

F2 and Unicorn's front tyres are same. (18 inchers)
Want a tyre which gives me a good grip and my range would be 2k.

Only front? I think both have the same 2.75*18" tyres upfront, but rear F2 came with 90/90/18". I'm not sure what your Unicorn spokes model came with. Do check&let me know.

Here are my suggestions for the front, in order of preference:
          1. Michelin M45: soft compound, best grip in almost all conditions (I got this)
          2. Michelin M62: good for rugged roads
          3. MRF Zapper FS: good for tarmac, wet riding, not so great on gravel.
          4. Dunlop Ezee Cruiser: Good for rugged&ok on tarmac. Not so great in wet. Heavier.
          5. Ceat: heavy tyres, better for offroading.
          6. TVS: I won't suggest!

Hey thanks Sarvajit for the promt reply.
Yes i need only front as the rear is quite new.
And the front indeed is 2.75*18" And i currently have 100/90*18 MRF Zapper Q.
I was wondering if i can move to 3.0*18?
And whats the cost of M45?

If you are running with Zapper Q at the rear, I would suggest Zapper FS only. Both will work well together.
Yes, 3.00*18" is the stock rear spec of your bike. You can upsize to 100/90/18" as you have already done. As you might be aware, this affects pickup&mileage slightly, but may give better width&grip.
I had also been using Dunlop GeoCruiser 100/90/18" till now&have reverted to 3.00*18".
Next time, go for Michelin M45&Sirac Street like I wrote to you in my VM!
I paid Rs.1350 for my M45 2.75*18" front after lot of bargaining.

Hey thanks alot for clearing my confusion.
Well i don't have any intentions to go back to 3.00*18 for rear as i'm very happy with my Zapper Q. Have not noticed any change in the pickup or mileage.(May be becuase i'm using this spec since 5 years now.) I still get around 55 in city.
                Then Zapper FS it is.

ride height will come down by :
                  80% of 120 mm (coz its 120/80) - 70% of 140 mm (coz its 140/70)
                  96 - 98
                  = -2 mm ??

Which means the ride height is going to increase by 2mm !!
hehe... I'm not saying based on any theory.. but the actual observation, when he put that one, and then reverted back to stock. PM/msg him and ask na...
one thing I can assure you... the 140 section gives it a sexy looking back

180 is the section width, right? Then what is 55 here?
                    55 is 55 % of 180 which is 99mm ... its the tire sidewall height ...
                    so 120/80 is 120mm width and 80 % of 120mm = 96 mm sidewall height

+1 to the sexy looking back
and im sure the grip must be pretty good considering its wider ...

I am looking for a replacement for my apache 180 rtr's rear tyre.. I saw that Pirelli has the model 'Scorpion Sport daemon' for on/off-road with a size of 130/90-17". The stock tyre coming with apache rtr 180 is 110/90-17". So would this tyre fit without any problems on Apache 180 ?

Any idea on how this tyre is and the performance ? It seems to be good with more area of contact on-surface. Putting a 130 in place of 110 won't be much of a problem, isnt it ? I dont want to go for a lesser width than the stock size (110). I don't mind if its costlier than others since i'm looking for the best grip.. Apache tyres sucks big time.. and skids frequently.. i would have lost my life once when a lorry came opposite in the wrong side and the bike skid when i breaked. The worst point was it was in summer when the roads were really dry

I can also checkout any other tyre manufacturer models which you guys suggest.. But i thought Pirelli had the best grip even if its a bit coslty

I really appreciate your inputs .. thanks a lot..

For a 110/90 17 , you should not go above 120 section width. You will have options from all manufacturers in 120 including Pirelli & Michelin. 130 would be an overkill.

                              1. I am on my second Sirac now. Since the tyre has gone past the 5K mark I've noticed an increase in the tendency to loose traction under heavy braking. This was not the case with my previous Sirac which had seen a lot of worse of roads. Could it be a manufacturing defect? Or has the compound become hard or something like that?

                              2. A local tyre dealer was claiming that Michelin is going to launch a 17" front tyre in the next 1-2 months. Is this true?

                                1. We have not changed any compounds. Unlikely to be a manufacturing defect, but you can visit the Dealer is this is bothering you and ask him to take a look. Only after an assessment can the reason be determined.

                                2. Yes it is true. 100/90 17 Pilot Sporty and 3.00 17 Pilot Sporty about to hit the shops in Dec 2010
