dear! its very simple. what the dealer told u is right. 100/80 means the width of the tyre is 100mm and the side wall of the tyre is 80% of the width ie 80mm in this case,which also determines the profile of the tyre.

now coming to that figure 4. its the width of the tyre in inches. 1 inch =25.4mm so it translates into 101mm (100 mm approx). so basically 4.00 is equivalent of 100 section tyre.

hope your doubt is cleared.

BTW michelin are soft compound tyres and weigh around 30% less than their hard indian counterpart. offer better grip and mileage. costs more and lasts less.

iii) DUNLOP MONSTER: Its not a dual purpose..
iv) MRF MO-CROSS : This is an excellent tyre on the dirt and mud.. but not on road...
LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST,
V) MAXXIS: Both the options are availaible however.its too costly...

Bhai he is absolutely correct it is the same.. howeverr the diff that compnay writes 4.0 instead of 100/90 or 100/80 is that to differenciate between the front and the rear tyre tread and compound..
pls do not aopt for that.. go for some other option.. arrey yaar.. u have 18" go for.. nylo zapper Q or "VyoE".. the treads in markets..my personal exp..

P.S: Prices May vary.. these were the prices i knew..any changes pls corect me!!
I) Dunlop Monster..(800/- INR in delhi) if you have a bit of offroad on your dailly commute way..then its good.. 100% tarmac.. waste..

II) Geo Cruiser.. (800/- INR in delhi): The THE worst tyre... good for nothing.. the cheapest tyre..many people use it..but trust me its THE worst...

III) Ceat: SECURA Zoom(1300/- INR in delhi): the only Dual purpose tyre..that motorcyles can bear wit...

IV) Ceat: MOCROSS (1800/- INR in delhi): 100% OFF road tyre..useless for you..
rest ceat.. no much idea..

V) MRF Zapper Q..(12-1500/- INR in delhi): THE BEST FRO ZMA .. 120/80 section.. tubeless.. direct fit... no probs.. ultimate grip..even on water.. after Nylozapper FS and S,it is the tyre that gives the best water resource planning and awesome grip on water on tarmac..

VI) Pireli.. (18-2000/- INR in delhi) :Way to costly.. and gives you awesome grip.. but not on water,also a bit of soft compound..so wear's Off fast..

VII) Last but not the least.. there are a couple of more brands:

RALCO(650/- INR in delhi): Useless,this company earlier manufactured tyre for rickshaw's and cycles..with the brand name of "RALSON"..
Reason being: tryes very hard,and heavy,gives a lot of stress to the engine..god for person's who are learning wheeliee's ..

METRO CONTINENTAL(800/- INR in delhi): IF you put up in chhera punji or myswarryam..then this tyre is THE BEST ..

KINGS(1200/- INR in delhi):100% chineese tyres.. worthless.. waste of money...

VEE RUBBER(17-1800/- INR in delhi):Very nice tyres.. awesome grip.. soft compound..provides a less grip when comes in contact with water + tarmac..
rest in all fine..

Phheeeww..
Anything else.. Sir..??

Ok that means i'm left with only MRF Zapper Q. will go for it.

Dude, try the M45 3.25 * 18 Michelin on ur Uni. I have it on my Fiero, so too does my close friend on his Unicorn and he swears by it. You wont get a better tyre than the Michellin M45.

^ M45 is snake skin pattern standard michelin... u get front-rear set. fits well on karizmas too.
and it all depends on the fit and finish of what you need. need wider tyres but dont wanna dip mileage, u get 1xx/70-1x tyres imports would give more sporty look and feel. but need more grip then put 200-300 extra than budget and get pirellis! but all goes bad if you get chain locking in...
zapQ is a good tyre though...

@shadez- Sir,have you ever heard of MAxxis,,its even above Michelin in MotoX,,Also,Michelin Provides Starcross MS2 tyres.. but they are 100% offroad..i asked for a Dual Purpose tyre suggestion..and even very costly..

@ Setu: bhai.. Vee-R tyres are very soft compound tyres as they are thailand based rubber also they do not provode dual purpose it would be 100% off road.. and when i would run that rx on road itt will bounce..and within 1000kms on that tyres,those tyres would turn to waste..

@L.P:bro tell me if i use M45(4-18) for rear of zma what should i fit in for the front as the spec should be like 2.75-18 as provided by company.

M45 is good.. you can use it both for your rear as well as front in the orginal sizes..

You also have an option for DURO..if you want to see..Please goooooogle and see..its goood..

In delhi visit the KRP shop. They normally have a huge stock of Michelin tyres. Google KRP for their address
