Im searching for a new rear tyre for my 2005 Thunderbird which i bought recently. The rear tyre has worn out. And its raining heavily in Kerala thesedays with 2 months of evening thunderstorms to follow till Dec. Im desperate to get a new rear tyre. Currently its running on an MRF Nylogrip 3.50-90-19. Eventhough its ok, i would like to go for a broader tyre@ rear. My options are MRF Meteor 110/90/19 [it costs rs.1800/-] and the Dunlop Monster 120/80/19 [rs.2000/-]. I was about to go for the MRF Meteor. But, a lot of guys says its a stupid tyre and it skids like hell in rains. I know some guys who changed it within a couple of months after purchase. Any guess about Dunlop Monster 120/80/19? I personally checked the tyre. It looks wide & has a deep water groove in the middle. So, it seems it will perform better in wet conditions which i give importance to. Can i fit it without modifying the swingarm? Will it touch/scratch the mudguard/chaincover while riding with a pillion? Are there any better options from Michelin? I dont like the Duro ones. Please suggest. My choice is still the Dunlop Monster

Michelin currently does not have 19" tyres in India

Another thing, I heard Michelin do not sell Tubes. Is this correct? You must be going tubeless right? I dont have that option, cos of the spoked rims.
It is correct the Michelin does not sell its own tubes in India, however it may not be correct to use them tubeless. Infact, except superbike tyres, all other Michelin tyres we sell are tube type as maximum bikes even now have spoked rims.

Any idea about the Price difference of MRF and M45 of both sizes? I know, M45 would be a much better tyre any day, any surface, but I am on a shoe string budget here .

        Thanks,
For those who may not be aware, here are the prices without tube inclusive of tax in VAT states. Few states like Gujarat, Orissa, Rajasthan, UP and kerala, it may be 15-20 rs higher.

M45 is the best tyre i had in my bike so far.. i have been using m45 before as well and this is the second m45 i am using on my bike. the first one worn out at 17k kms which is not bad since I have done loads of very long trips with it.. (21 days continuous riding on highways, 6200kms) and few burnouts too the tyre sticks very well when it is heated up resulting very confident cornering. its good in wet as well as snow (i did not face any trouble in my leh trip )

all in all, amazing tyre for our roads as far as i am concerned!
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

                +1.

Razorblades: Did you pick up any punctures on the M45? I seemed to be getting a puncture almost every 10 days when I was running my first M45. Someone else was also talking about it.

                  • Help needed in selecting Tyre for my ZMA

I am planning to change my rear and front tyre of my bike as I am planning for a 5 day road trip .
I want a tyre that offers me a good grip on the wet road ( Most probably there will be heavy raining on my route ) . Can anyone tell me a good tyre that offers me a good grip on wet roads and will prevent fish tale on braking hard(at least to some extent).
I have heard taht to install some wider tyres I have to remove the chain cover. I am not interested in removing the chain cover (even though it look good I don’t want to spend time in open chain maintenance )
I read some tyres are too heavy so that it will drop the acceleration and top end . I don’t want such heavy tyres also .
So Please suggest me a good tyre (with tube or tubless) that gives me good grip on wet roads and can be installed without removing the chain cover and which is having less impact on acceleration and top speed. If such a tyre is available in stock size (100/90) I will be glad to go for that , I will go for wider tyre only if there is no good option in stock size..
Please suggest me a good tyre according to my requirement .

I'll suggest you a Pirelli Sport Demon (tubeless), dats in my ZMA-R too.
Awesome grip (the best I shud say) on wet n all the surfaces. It feels very heavy when lifted by hand, but I dint feel any drop in my pic-up, top-end + I feel my average increased by atleast 4 kmpl...

Yes, we have a very restricted range in 17" right now. rest assured Michelin will not disappoint you.
