I would not advice a bigger tyre than 100 for P150. I do not know exactly about how far you can go. Let others flow their advices.

I do not know much about MRF Meteor. Almost same pattern Monster has. I have done offroading and some serious touring with this Monster for 28000 km. It served very well and better than the zapper.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View Post

Thanks for the reply. So Dunlop Monster it will be. And what size do you recommend? Top priorities are - good grip in mud, good flickability and last of all good grip on tarmac too.Originally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostI do not know much about MRF Meteor. The thread pattern is similar to Monster and M45.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View Post
This is the MRF Meteor.
All these offroad tyres would have more contact patch compared to our normal stock tyres which have rounder profile. Flickability would be less compared to (but still are very much flickable) normal patterns. The road grip will be better.
I would suggest you 100/90 or 100/80. Do not go any further, it would cause loss in pickup.
Also, wait for the opinion of other members before deciding.HH Karizma (Current) || CBF Stunner PGM-FI || Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler

Dude, dont consider the Zapper Q or any Zapper for that matter... thats the last thing thats gonna give you any grip for off-road use!Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostGuys, i have a query about this rear tyre. It is a Ceat Secura Zoom - 100/90 - 18. And the bike is P150 Classic. This tyre gives decent performance in dry as well as wet conditions. I have to drive in extreme mud and slush for about 30% of my time (where is is even difficult to walk except barefoot). This tyre skids like hell and my bike simply fishtails violently at any speed where we can put our legs up on the footpegs. And this is in 2nd gear. If driven in 1st gear a massive slide results. So it almost feels like almost driving on oil. So I am thinking about changing my tire. Is MRF Meteor a better choice? Or even a MRF Zapper Q? (I want to maintain the same size)
Thanks for replying.
For your application, I'd choose a tyre with studs and deep treads. That will give you best grip for the conditions you have described. But please be aware that such a tyre will very likely not be the best for driving on good roads... so you have to compromise either way. M45 is designed to be a pure city tyre... I doubt it will be good for your application. Haven't used it however... so can't comment on how it performs in real.

I am not too keen to go for pure offroading tyres. As I have said only 30% of my riding is in offroad conditions. Rest 70% is on tarmac. So, I am confused about what the best compromise would be. I am leaning towards a Dunlop Monster 100/90 - 18. But I have heard it is a heavy tyre. So I am worried that it will adversely affect flickability.Originally posted by Raccoon View PostDude, dont consider the Zapper Q or any Zapper for that matter... thats the last thing thats gonna give you any grip for off-road use!

I would appreciate if any Dunlop Monster user would enlighten me about the performance of this tyre in deep slush and flickability in tarmac.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

A heavy tyre will also adversely affect the suspension... and hence the ride quality, so beware.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostI am not too keen to go for pure offroading tyres. Only a tyre with studs will give you better control in slush. I doubt the Monster will perform well there... anyway hope other people who have actually tried it here can give more useful info.

Sirac and M45 are not pure off-roading tyres. They serve well in all terrains (which include highways too).Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostI am not too keen to go for pure offroading tyres. Aswin from banglore has been using sirac and he bought them for his extensive touring.
I have used monster most of the time on highways, felt always better than the MRF zappers.HH Karizma (Current) || CBF Stunner PGM-FI || Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler
