Help me guys

I am currently using Motul Cleaner and Lube and this is my first time too! Cleaning is clean, spray and wipe off with a waste cloth. The chain looks brand new in just a couple of seconds. After lubing the chain it feels little sticky and the best part is after lubing the chain the rear wheels are not spilled with the chain lube. Cost of both Cleaner and Lube 1050/-

I have a KTM RC 200. First time, I had given my bike to SVC for chain cleaning and lubing. I noticed they are not using Motul (I forgot the product name). I drove the bike just 3 KMs after lubing, one side of my orange wheel, white underseat, number plate, reflectors were black. BTW, they charged me 180/-

From my little experience of using few products & testing them personally for nearly 4 years & over 80000 Km...

1. Which chain clean method is best for chains life + for pocket :P

WD 40 > Motul Chain Cleaner > 3M Chain Cleaner - In terms of best cleaning

2. Which chain lube to go with?

SAE 140 < Ti Diamond < Rolon < Motul - In the order of VFM + Doing good job
Motul < Rolon < Ti Diamond - In the order of bad product

1. Which chain clean method is best for chains life + for pocket :P
2. Which chain lube to go with?

Upto what I researched in XBHP community is

1. For chain clean options are
a. Motul Chain clean
b. WD 40
c. kerosene
d. diesel
I can clean using diesel/kero because they are cost effective (no issues with that messy work :P ), but as posted earlier by one of the member that using diesel "soon you will lose the slackness with performance/mileage downfall"
But some guys in this thread says its ok to use kero/diesel

Which one to use

Now Next question LUBRICATION.

Options are :
1. Motul chain lube
2. OKS chain lube
3. TVS chain lube
4. TriboCor chain lube5. Yamalube chain lube
6. SAE 90

Motul is best but very costly
Some say TVS sticks but some say don't lasts for 200kms
Some say Tribocor is good some say its worst.
same mixed reviews for OKS
for SAE 90 is very cheap but it attracts dust most.
YAMALUBE not much reviewed on XBHP. But seems good to me.


For me lube should be cost effective + should work good (not expecting best coz with price comes quality :P )

Got the TriboCor TC 205 lube I ordered. Works like a charm. It black in colour and the I find it better that Motul lube. But I do not find the adhesive properties so great. During high speed runs, the lube gets thrown off because of the centrifugal force.

Cost Rs 440 for 300gm/500ml spray can. I bought from ebay. The seller charged Rs 18 for courier.

Chain Lube

I have used Release On in the past, then switched to Motual Chain Lube Road. Have been using it for the past 2 1/2 years. I use kersosene to clean if the chain is very dirty and Motul Chain Clean if there isn't much dirt. For me rain is the biggest curse. For some reason it surely rains whenever I clean my bike or clean/lube the chain. And all the lube and effort goes down the drain! Anyways, from my experience, I found that SAE 90 oil is better than Motul and Release On. I have the chain lubed with oil during service. Lasts 100s of kilometres. But Motul does not. I heard TriboCor lube is good and have ordered it from ebay. Have to give it a try.

I want to clean my bull's chain and lube it, but when I search through the Internet I am getting confused between using oil or spray . Can you please guide me with the following:

1. What chain cleaner I can use?
2. Chain should be lubed with lube oil or spray? Please guide which oil or spray will suit RE.
3. What should be the interval of cleaning the chain in normal city riding conditions?

For chain cleaning of the bull RE service manual mentions that firstly take your chain off from the bike clean it thoroughly with kerosene, once all the major dirt has been washed, wash it again with fresh kerosene, hang the chain for 1/2 an hour so that extra kerosene is dripped, wipe the chain with clean cloth, melt that much amount of grease in a pan in which your chain can submerged leave the chain in melted grease till it solidifies, then take out the chain and wipe the extra grease, if you dont want to clean the chain by kerosene, then you can clean it by WD40 spray, and lube the chain by Motul chain lube, this way is less time consuming , and less tiring.

Guys, do not put your bike in gear for chain lubrication. One person on team bhp has got his fingers chopped while cleaning the chain. Although he was holding the chain in his hand which was dangerous still i believe lubricating the bike when in gear could be risky.DO NOT clean motorcycle chain with bike running in 1st gear and on the main stand! - Page 6 - Team-BHP

Buy these two spray bottles from Motul. I use them too. This pair will do for you for an year or so. Will come at around 1000/-

Apply the chain Lube first and then leave the chain for 5 mins. Wipe it off after that with a clean cotton cloth. Then apply the Chain Lube spray and you are good to go. You should check back the lubrication after every 15 days/500 kms

Though I don't have modern day's motorcycle that requires special lubricants to clean up chain, I've a question though on them.

Why is a WD40 being suggested to clean up the chain? Why not something like a chain cleaner from Motul or Wurth? Is there any specific reason with WD40?

@ Ganesh : Does an Rx 100 chain require this procedure? What I do is bug my mech to clean it with diesel, wipe dry dip in melted grease and then leave to drip, before installing. Chain runs fine, but covers require cleaning.

Yes I use WD-40.
Recently bought 1 more small can as big size was not available.
I'm spraying it on the places where I see a bit of rust in Bike.

For TVS chain lube.
Go to TVS service center & you can buy from there but I don't the quantity yet. [MENTION=59844]bavlo[/MENTION] posted the pic above, so he might help here. !

You will get a spray can of 500 ml for 333 Rs/ at any tvs service center. To buy TVS chain lube spray you need to buy it from a tvsvservice center.

Wd40 is good to use for cleaning because you are not going to keep it on your chain applied for a long time so in my openion it will not harm o rings. You can also use kerosene. I am using kerosene till now.

I was just about to post the same.

A local Mechanic in Hyderabad with 15years of Experience said the same.

He said TVS lube is cheap and good in quality.
If not more than Motul its near to Motul in quality.
And we have to lube on each 500-600km if we take it seriously.
So its good to go for a bit lesser price Lube
