car is DAD's car, and bike is MY bike.and i love riding as well as driving, but given a choice, i wud love to ride even a HH Splendor, than driving a Merc.

You really don't need UV protection on a dashboard; second, being a relatively new car, you really don't need dashboard polish or anything. Save your money & spend on Diesel to keep driving The dashboard simply needs a clean wipe once a week, that's all.

Saw the above link just a few days ago, thus my intention to go for UV protective dashboard polish. And i need it because DAD likes to travel with out the Ac, and opening the windows, even on the dusty city traffic. So the interiors gets dusty quickly.

Araey, you don't need polish qolish or anything on a brand new car; just wax or simply use sealants that's all & wipe away for next 6 months if you use a very good wax or sealants. If you're so skeptical, go to carzspa for once & then start cleaning yourself.

Use the above products FK108 or use sealants like Optiseal or sealants from Duragloss, though they will attract dust (obviously as the Windows are down), but will help you prevent damages.

Remember, there's no product in the world that can keep away from dust; even the best, renowned dirt repels will allow dust to settle, but prevent the base material from damage, that's all

+1 to that. Wax is what should be used to protect the vehicle from dust. they also have excellent water beading properties. Good brands like Collinite, turtle wax, Meguairs etc. have a variety of range of wax products. The main ingredient of a wax polish is Carnauba. The higher the content the longer and better the protection will be from external elements - water, dust. Though dont know if they also provide UV protection.

Also another point with using carnauba wax is that they provide long term protection hence you dont have to do it every week. Though many brands claim that they provide year long protection but i think once every month or two is enough.

For added protection you can go for a second layer or maybe use a sealant.

From my very little experience, I found that, a sealant does a visibly better job (noticed only after the vehicle gets dirty) than double coat waxing because of it's polymer contents. But be warned, sealants are way too expensive

It costed me as nearly 2K for a 400 ml bottle or so

Thank you aargee. I do not have any experience with the kind of waxing and polishing techniques that are discussed here or are normally used. Till now i also have been using the same old liquid polish with a soft cloth for my shining requirements and was happy with it.

But now hopefully by next week i will have the entire kit - wax and MF cloths and be using the proper technique of waxing and maintaining my bike. I enjoy doing it but at the same time have to face the ire of my wife .

I have bought the Turtle Wax Platinum Protective high-gloss for around Rs.500. It says on the pack that i can be used as a sealant over the wax. So not know if it qualifies as a sealant. As there is a huge price difference between Rs.2000 and Rs.500.

Which sealant did you buy? brand?

Diesel wash is the best wash...

Cheap & Effective ...Bike shines like its brand new

Costs 60-100rs depends upon shop


First They Wash bike with pressure water
Then Clean's bike with Diesel
Then With Shampoo
Then again Wash with Pressure Water....

True, but...
1. It's hard to wash away the Diesel
2. If Diesel is not removed from the bike, it acts as duster accumulating all the dust & it soon becomes pretty hard to remove them
3. So I switched to de-greasing with Petrol & WD40 these days, but thinking of buying a degreaser & give a try instead

First They Wash bike with pressure water...with Pressure Water....

Saar...we're talking about detailing; pressure wash is the easiest job & ruins any vehicle on long run

Since i am in the initial stages i have not invested much but to begin with it will help me to at least keep my bike spic n span in a good way. So here is the small list of products that i will be using [both ordered / already i have in stock]:

a. Home Needs sprinkler [ordered] (Rs.295)

b. Collinite 845 [ordered] - my main waxing component (Rs.1059)

c. Turtle wax Platinum series Protective Extra gloss [bought] - To seal and protect the wax and hopefully bring out extra shine. (Rs.500)

d. Motomax dashboard polish [bought] - for polishing meter consoles, indicators and side matte plastics (Rs.99)

e. Motomax bumper black [bought] - for a deeper black front and rear mud guards (Rs.45)

f. Cyclo Engine degreaser [bought] - for cleaning the engine from tar and other kinds of sticky dirt (Rs.400 - dont exactly remember the cost)

g. 2 nos. circular foam applicators [ordered] - Rs.159 each / one each for applying the wax and protective sealant

h. 5 nos. MF cloth [ordered] - Rs.159 each / one for daily dusting / one for washing / one for drying / one for buffing the wax / one for buffing off the sealant

i. 2 nos. small hand brush [bought] Rs.49 each - one for cleaning the under belly of the engine and second one for cleaning the tires

j. 1 small bottle cleaning brush[bought] Rs.49 - for cleaning areas where normal hands cannot reach

k. 1 can of Motomax tire shine [old stock] - this one is of no use hence will be using to just finish the product and then later will go for something with a lil bit more kick

l. Amway carsh wash [500 ml bottle] [bought] - Rs.257

m. two 4 litre buckets [old stock] one for soapy water and second one for rinsing.

n. 30 feet hose [old stock]

o. 1 litre turpentine oil [Rs.60] for cleaning chain, the air filter etc.

p. SAE 90 grade oil + oil dispenser [will be used as chain lube and air filter]

q. All required tools - Allen Key set, couple T-bar spanners, a whole lot of spanners, and other required tools for opening and tightening screws

r. Digital Multimeter - for checking battery condition etc.

s. 1 paint brush [for general purpose cleaning of chains, sprockets, engines etc.]

some of the products especially the tools have been bought over a period of time.

So if anyone wants to go for the above config all at once then this should cost anywhere between 5000-6000 rs.

On a good day with full of enthusiasm it takes me anywhere between 3-4 hrs from washing till the final buffing is over.

I have recently started using Collinite 845. To be precise i used it on my bike this sunday only. The result is very good. In terms of how long it will last, i have read anywhere between 3-6 months maybe more. Depending upon conditions and how you park your car - inside, outside. Covered or without cover etc. etc.

aargee has better experience with Collinite 845 and can shed more light on its durability.

It is pretty easy to use. Just apply it as thin as possible. buffing is really easy. I let it to dry till it become powdery and even then buffing was easy. You can even go for a double coat (if you want) after a gap of 12-24 hours for some added protection but many have different views on this but i feel that it will give an added protection.

polishing and waxing both are different. Polishing (if done correctly) will remove all minor scratches, swirl marks etc and bring out the desired shine. This process is better done by professionals as they have the required tools. Now in this there are some products that eat up a lil bit of the clear coat / paint finish to bring out the shine, but those are mostly industrial/commerical products. For home / DIY use there are many products from various brands like meguairs, collinite, turtle wax etc. that are clear coat safe and help removing minor scratch / swirl marks.

But polishing the vehicle too often is not recommended as they tend to reduce the finish at micron levels. Maybe once a year or every 6 months wont matter much.

Polishing should be done before waxing as it preps the surface and allows the wax to bond better to the surface. You can also try using a clay bar before polishing to remove any kind of impurities from the surface.
