      • hi...
i have been using the BA2201 K&N air filter for the past one month or so and ever since i have fitted it the engine seems to pick up heat alot as compared to when i was using the stock air filter....
i drive to and from work everyday, a total distance of ~50kms. is this going to cause any problem to my bike???

For instructions on how to remove / reinstall the filter, this thread is useful

For specific instructions about how to clean a K&N filter, my fellow xBHPians should help.

            • Is the filter wrong in size or you have improperly installed it?? I guess filter comes with instructions, try them.
For cleaning, again there are instructions I guess if not here's a DIY K&N Air Filter Cleaning and re-oiling tips

                • K & N filtes

Lots of mechanics are advising against using K & N air filters, saying they are not suaitable for our dusty conditions,K & N increases air flow to the engine but don`t filter the air completely & it is harmfool to the engine in the long run cause lot of very fine particle dust is always present in the airfilter track.
This fact I have seen in my father`s car so I can also vouch for it.
                  So how about bikes ?
Can any knowlagable person shed light on it ?

If you don't own a Pulsar, don't fit K&N. As simple as that!
Reason - K&N makes specific filters for the Pulsar brand.

Never go for universal filters. They do more harm than giving benefits.

I totally second that and its a long on-going debate. But having said that it also depends on where you stay. Not all parts of India are dusty.

                      • K & N filter for yamaha R15

hey i was thinking of installing K&N filter on my R15..i like its sound..is it worth ? what are the pros and cons of K&N filters ??

                        Comment

                        • Approved. Pros:

                          1. Good sound,
                          2. Good initial performance,

                          Cons:

                          1. It may get dirt and other elements inside the engine and seize it within 1-1.5 years if you're using the RC1060 filter without any airbox. Its the most common air filter available, but go for it only if you're an expert in this matter.

The safer and better alternative is to use a standard box type filter which goes straight into your airbox without airbox modifications, but it won't increase performance by so much, but you'll be safe.

                          2. Its difficult to set the Air Fuel Ratio right specially since its a Fuel injected bike, that too an open loop one which doesn't adjust fuel automatically.
You're increasing air flow, fuel should increase too, right?

                          3. If you don't get AFR adjusted, your bike will heat up quickly, lose its engine life, not give a good top speed and could be damaged in other ways too.

@ Members/ R15 owners: Guys, please suggest him what to do regarding this matter?

                            • Did you checked cosworth air filters for R15, i am being using it from last 3 months on my R15 and it has really improved its performance, since its a dry filter it doesnt need oiling so attracting dirt and other particles is out of question, all you need to do is every 3k kms remove it soak in soap water for 10 mins then clean water for 30 mins and then let it dry for the day and fit it next day and you are ready to go.

It definitely improved low end torque, i tried it on my slingee and it could take on a slope on second gear after a stop but the top-speed went down to 70-75 , Without cosworth bike used to hit 100kph+ on speedo(provided there is enough straight road), i removed it after a few hundred kms, Still keeping it to use on another day.oh i do miss that intake grunt

Not sure what it's gonna do to an R15 though!.
