Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
[QUOTE=sniper;946635]The main jets from any pulsar won't fit the activa carb as they are of different sizes. You have been misinformed, mate
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
Yes u r right I conformed about it.
My mech again told me he did but when I asked to pop the hood he openly told that he had changed the carb.
And yes the carb is of pulsar 180 ug3 with 117.5 size jet the main jet.
And yes the threding of the pulsar jet is different and hence they don't fit in the activas carb.

Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
Hey guys.
First the history lessons : Bought CBZ-X on 26th Nov 2006. Installed RC-1100 on Jan 2007 just for the sound. Loved the sound. The engine got bad. Real bad. But it takes a lot of time till you start noticing it. Till then damage was already done.
Present : Bought R15 on 16th Sept 2012 1 month after selling my beloved CBZ. Installed K&N 24th May 2013, for the sound again. This time i choose the stock replacemenet Ya12-08 (something). Not sound, I don`t think any performance gain. My millage came down from 45-47 to around 35ish. Bike use to do 75km/hr @ 5k in 6th gear, now does 72km/hr. Idle RPM when hot goes to 2k almost. Thought about it. Removed the K&N with stock filter on 27th May 2013.
Haven`t done much riding since yesterday so can`t say much. The thing about K&N is, everyone will have their views, +ve and -ve. All will make you really confused, really really confused. In the end, to have it or not is up to up.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
Too bad that you had two bad experiences with K&N filters. Your CBZ most likely was not rejetted at all, therefore it over heated & got damaged. Major over sight on part of the installer. The YA-1208 not giving you performance & mileage is kind of surprising though. Do me a favour & try this. Take a tissue & soak up some excesss oil from the K&N filter.'there may be chances of it being 'over-oiled'. That should solve your problem. Let me know the resultsOriginally posted by himanshunegi1987 View PostHey guys.

Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
Thanks for your input. When i unpacked the filter their was definitely a lot of oil in it. I thought may be that`s how the company want me to use it so i used it as it was. When i took it off , their wasn`t that much of oil on it. I will do as you suggested and update. Till then please answer the following questions :Originally posted by sniper View PostToo bad that you had two bad experiences with K&N filters. 1) You really think on a stock R15 v 2, stock replacement K&N filter will boost performance (marginal) and won`t effect fuel efficiency ?
2) Does it need any other kind of settings ?
3) How would you explain the idle RPM raising to almost 2 after some 20-25 km of driving? It has never happened before. My idle RPM was always at 1.4-1.45k mark.
4) How do i clean the filter before putting it back in ? Do i need some special oil or something ?
Thank you.

Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
1. A Stock Replacement filter usually increases performance by 5-10% depending on the bike/car, fuel efficiency actually get slightly better, but then, you'll have to ride your bike like a splendor for it.
2&3. You'll need to get the idle rpm adjusted back to normal from an authorized service center. that's a good time to check your AFR setting too.Ask them to adjust it if required.
4. Since your filter is new you do not need to clean it before re-installation. It is always advisable to clean a K&N with the K&N Cleaining Kit only. Trust me, I have tried almost everything else, nothing works like it.
Hope this helps. All the best

Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
I don't want any performance gain. If i get it, its good. I already have a good mileage out of my bike so don`t want any improvement on it. I did wanted that sound but stock K&N does not offer that. The only reason i want it on my bike is because i paid a 3k for it. But without any ill effect on my ride.Originally posted by sniper View Post1. If i put K&N back on my bike, and drive it the way i use to, will it effect my engine or have reduced mileage ?

Re: K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts
In that case, you can make a few holes in the air filter box cover. That will increase the sound. More holes= more sound. just make sure u remove the cover before u make the holes.

So u suggest i shld try K&N once again, after removing the excess oil, and keeping everything stock and it won`t do any kind of harm to the engine ?Originally posted by sniper View PostIn that case, you can make a few holes in the air filter box cover. Re: Which K&n Airfilter is best for P220? R1100 or BA-2201
Well, I have a BA-2201 (Stock replacement) K&N Air filter. Its Very easy to remove-reinstall when you decide to clean up the filter. No upjetting is required. No alterations nothing doing.
I do get a mileage of 40kmpl on sane riding in city.
A friend of mine who has a 220 installed a RC-1100 conical filter and gets lesser avg than me but he gets that juicy sound of K&N what most demand. Though his bike also gives 44kmpl on highway run.
Now about the performance, a conical filter does perform better than the stock replacement one. But Stock one is a long term filter.
But yes power gain is noticable in both. Though more in Conical.
So people choose wisely according to ur riding style
