K&N Air Filter Queries and Doubts

This is a sticky topic.

There was a point of time when i used to strip my old CT100's carburetor every week and try a new jet. A K&N filter should cost u around 2k at most. A jet costs around 100 to 150 bucks. Most of the times upjetting isnt required as a richer mixture can do the job of a bigger jet. However for pushing it to the extreme a bigger jet is needed. I suggest u go to Ramkoti as there are plenty of mechanics available who do this job regularly. They may advice the correct size jet at the first go. Sam had also got it done there. Probably he or Thejus might know a few mechanics there.Originally posted by vivek4hhh View PostBiking is not my Passion, it is my Religion!

shiju from eenchakkal...you might have seen a star bikes garage on the left side (about 500m)while going from eenchakkal circle towards kovalam. he does this job perfectly regarding filters and upjetting accordingly...Originally posted by Nixster View PostAnyone knows any good mechanic in trivandrum to fix K&N on my unicorn? Most people are not even aware of "jetting" so please help me.Also,kindly suggest me a suitable jet size for unicorn(one that won't hurt economically).ThnxMy New Blog : http://ridesaferidelong.blogspot.com/

just a waste of money
You are taking about platinum one thing I wanna clear is that Platinum don't last long they got shot after extreme riding and Platinum is no way near to Iridium plugs.Any one can judge 2 Platinum cost 500Rs where as Iridium cost one.Originally posted by Dogg View Postya,i guess platinum would be a bang for ur buck as it has a better life compared to the normal ones and r cheap too...Ride Safe & Ride Long-->

@coplay@180
maybe the reason your bike has gone rough is the fact that you are using the wrong engine oil in your bike? Recently I too have come to know that castrol power1 is not proper oil for p180 ug3 as our bikes need 20w50 minimum whereas power1 is 20w40 i think? I am using motul 5100 semi synth in my bike and its so much smoother after switching from power1( those stupid castrol bike center service guys keep recommending power1 to everyone without knowing the proper grade for every bike... so thats how I got trapped.... but switch over and you will find a big difference)

I was using proper engine oil brother I know which is best for which bike and K&N are completely useless thing.CP-1 is good oil for 20w40 bikes not 20w50 bikes the guys who are owner P-180 should know which oil to use in there bike rather blaming some oil company.Originally posted by dggopal View Postmaybe the reason your bike has gone rough is the fact that you are using the wrong engine oil in your bike? Yes you're right. I was so mad about k&n that i went ahead and fixed it on my unicorn. Just 10kms on it and i really missed the sweet purr of my bike. Even one guy owning a P180 also had same experience. But again its upto the individual whether or not he should fix it.Good luck anyway

If your Pulsar is 150cc then the K&N RC1060 would be suitable or else for the 180/200/220 you need the R-1100/-. Get your bike to an K&N authorized installer in your area (check on the K&N site) and they should be able to rejet your carb too. Before you install it though please get your bike in perfect running order. Get your piston, valves & clutch plates done up first if required.

my brother installed rc1100 in his bike and got a re-jet after about 100km he switched back to stock air-filter because it was not doing its job well. and it messed up the top speed and torque.
the happened to my friend also when he installed rc1060 on his pulsar ug2.
Stay with the stack one.
