  • ^^^ You said it! Sorry, its my mistake. My apologies guys, for spreading useless info. I concede that N2 is one of the best things that happened to man after the invention of the wheel (errr... well, at least the pneumatic tyre). Please enjoy N2 and remember to share the myriad benifits you experienced with this wonder gas.

    • ^^^ Cool down guys! Let people those who are interested experience N2 for themselves and see!

And FYI, it is beneficial for tyres. Else, why would they be used is race cars? Even Nissan GTR comes factory filled with Nitrogen. Volvo uses them in their vehicle's spare tyres. Why? Simply a fad? I don't think so! The reasons, I have outlined in a post above.

Only thing is that, whether the benefit is worth the cost. In this case my answer is a NO.

        • The atomic weight of nitrogen is 14, and oxygen is 16 . Both exist in paired-atom molecules, ie, N2 and O2 . Given they both have 2 electron orbits, the molecular size should be the same.

The #1 reason racing teams fill nitrogen in tyres to remove oxygen , an oxidant - essential for combustion. Absence of oxygen reduces the chance of fire in case of a crash , and tyres being under significantly higher pressure than the atmospheric pressure, there's that much more oxygen available from a burst tyre ready to assist burning. The reduction is tyre/wheel corrosion is secondary , as is the reduced water vapour content.

          • @mindgrinder and Raccoon: Please drop the argument guys. It is getting tiresome. Take it to PMs. Will clean up the thread soon.

in that case hydrogen is not combustible but it can fuel combustion to a blast level H2 formula, used in rockets though. Air is a mixture, mixture is something with no defined quantities so u cannot judge the quantity etc if u talk about molecules you are right but significantly in case of compounds, H2 cannot be stored easily so its not available, air consists of water vapor etc or the other, all i know i fill nitrogen and feel better in control and less leakage so i am happy, less trouble for me, i think rossiter is right we should take argument to PM's but this place abt reviews and not views, so please if you have query post it, if you tried it post a review.

                  • each time tyre should be flushed with N2!

tyre shops just remove the air from tyre and they fill it up n2.
but the proper way to fill up nitrogen is, first remove existing air then fill n2 once, remove that n2 also, so that the little amount of air is left will be flushed out. this is the correct method to fill n2. i hav my own n2 filling system. anyone from pune is interested in filling it can get it from me for rs.50 for two tyres.

                    • if u dont flush the tyre with n2 before filling it, too much of normal air is left out in the tyre. so it doesnt make sense filling incomplete nitrogen.

but here im not charging anything for XBhpian's for N2 filling. if anyone interested can get it filled from me in their two or four wheelers.

                              • there is no difference after filling N2. only extended refill intervals. still the same pressure for over a month now. had to refill only front once as pressure got down by 3psi last week. rear wheel is still the same.
