    I'm using a sticker based plate.
    Though, the law is there(I came to know after reading this thread) regarding the IND plates. , the police here doesn't seem to bother. One time, my friend was fined for using a digital-graphical sticker in his plate. Only thing they asked for was a projection plate(the no.'s are projected outwards, like in the IND plate.) Many kerala xBhpian's would know this, the police here; if they stop you the'll not leave without getting atleast 100Rs.
    IND plate Costs around 800Rs..

      <bumping on an inactive thread>

      For Tamilnadu xBhpians:

      Some while ago, read in newspapers that all vehicles should have fixed HSRP Number plates before 31st March,2011.

      Has fixing of this no. plate started in Metro cities? Has govt. appointed dealers for the same?

        i want to know about the section and hope one of you have enough knowledge about it.
        Hi

        I dont know the particular section but it is stated in CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules), CMVR is taken into account for registration and certification of vehicle. Its Rule no 50 and i shall paste the content here:

        50. Form and Manner of Display of Registration Marks on the Motor VehiclesIND" in blue colour on the extreme left centre of
        the plate. The letter should be one fourth of the size of letters mentioned in
        Rule 51 and should be buried into the foil or applied by hot stamping and should
        be integral part of the plate;

        (iii) each plate shall be protected against counterfeiting by applying chromium-based
        hologram, applied by hot stamping. Stickers and adhesive labels are not
        permitted. The plate shall bear a permanent consecutive identification number of
        minimum seven digits, to be laser branded into the reflective sheeting and hot
        stamping film shall bear a verification inscription;
        (iv) apart from the registration marks on the front and rear, the third registration mark
        in the form of self destructive type, chromium based hologram sticker shall be
        affixed on the left-hand top side of the windshield of the vehicle. The registration
        details such as registration number, registering authority, etc., shall be printed on
        the sticker. The third registration mark shall be issued by the registering
        authorities/approved dealers of the licence plates manufacturer along with
        authorities/approved marks, and thereafter if such sticker is destroyed it shall be
        issued by the licence plate manufacturer or his dealer;
        (v) the plate shall be fastened with non-removable/non-reusable snap lock fitting
        system on rear of the vehicle at the premises of the registering authority
        (2) In the case of motorcycles the registration mark in the front shall be displayed parallel to
        the handle bar on any part of the vehicle including mudguard facing the front instead of,
        on a plate in line with the axis of the vehicle;

          THis means it is perfectly legal to stick your numbers on the mudguard/ windshield right?

            I read it in a newspaper that the IND no plate comes with a security lock which is tamper proof but haven't seen any of them on any bike, they just use the normal screw. Is it mandatory to use the security lock? Sorry if this is already been posted by someone else, didn't had patience to go through the entire thread.

              AFAIK, it is something like, it cannot be removed without breaking the holder. So if its broken, you are unlikely to find a replacement easily.

                I don't think there will be a need to remove it

                  Bro when someone steals your bike, usually the number plate is changed to something fake first. He might not have the papers for that number. But still a different number is better than a same number in the eyes of you and the cops.

                    I have this number plate from Utsav, the bolts are such that after screwing them the head (where we get the plier attached) can be broken. That means to change the number plate the other person has to change the whole welded part. Its also a negative thing as if by any chance the plate is broken , we have to change all the welded part

                      I got this set of reverse threaded drill bits from amazon, which are meant to extract screws which have the heads stripped and no screwdriver slots in properly. They fit into any drill which needs to be run in the reverse (ccw) direction. The bits tap into the screw and then start to unscrew it when it catches.

                        I have seen few bikes with embossed number plates, I am not talking about the IND number plates, just an ordinary number plate with the numbers on a raised portion. How do we go about doing this? Can we get the numbers embossed on the OE number plate or do we have to cut a metal sheet and get the number embossed?

                          ya, there area many types of embrossed number plates available. You can even get it embrossed in the font of ur choice. Its quite prevalent in my place!
                          you can't get it done on a OE plate coz its too hard and embrossing is done on an aluminium plate.

                          Meghalaya has made it compulsory for all vehicles to have the genuine HS plates. I can see alpha numeric number laser stamped below the IND letters. Its done only at the respective RTOs' and you need to have it done during the registration process itself. Any other HS plate made elsewhere doesn't have the laser stamped number.

                            Will the lathe guy be able to emboss the number on a metal sheet?

                              it will be hard I think coz u need to cast the letters and then stamp it with equal protrusions!
