I found the scala far more VFM. Works seamlessly and flawlessly. Would definitely recommend scala if bike to bike intercom is primary purpose.

Motorcycle Helmet Headsets..
Had one of these before i moved to the scala. Only works well for mobile phone connectivity. Completely useless as a bike to bike intercom system. Rarely connects. N when it did, range was hardly 250m. Also the rubber antenna fell off within a fortnight. 3 of us had bought it together. Same issues. So pretty sure it wasnt a issue related only to a particular unit.Originally posted by akshayhonda View Post

Has anyone here tried using a Walkie Talkie (FRS) with VOX headset or a headset with handlebar mounted PTT switch? I know it cannot be used with the phone and so irrelevant to this thread. But i am looking for a cheaper intercom solution for 3 riders. I am planning to buy Motorola T5720 walkie talkie set (costs Rs.2500 per set) with the headset (Rs.450 each). it is said to have a range of 5miles, but even 1km is enough for me.
You gotta risk it.. to get da biscuit !!!

RE: Motorcycle Helmet Headsets..
Even in city riding, a Bluetooth headset to take calls is a boon. I wonder why Helmet manufacturers don't provide this inbuilt is some model instead of $150-200 extra attachment.

Are Bluetooth devices for helmets worth it?
Hello All,
Firstly, I would like to say that I am a music fan. I want music to accompany me wherever I am.
But while riding on my bike, I always found it very uncomfortable to wear earphones inside the helmet, even though the sound quality was awesome
So I went around finding alternative options to listen to music while riding.
I enquired in several helmet shops, and found that helmets with built-in Bluetooth were available earlier, but were discontinued very soon.
But there are several Bluetooth devices available on the web for helmets. Has anyone bought these Bluetooth devices? Are they worth it, or just another Ch***se use-and-throw stuff?
Please help me out as I am really looking for a good solution... Cheers!!

Re: Are Bluetooth devices for helmets worth it?
I have a Nolan N85 with a built in integrated Bluetooth system. Quite frankly, While the sound quality is good enough for voice communication, it falls flat when comes to anything as complicated as reproduction of music is concerned. I would not recommend it for any music. And this is a bloody expensive Bluetooth system. So for anything cheaper, I leave it to your imagination.

Re: Are Bluetooth devices for helmets worth it?
Personally I don't feel safe with listing music while riding, I think because you cant hear the horn sound or anything on the road around you....Yes, But a helmet with blueteeth device is always very convenient on helmet while riding, Even that is feel dangerous because it distract your mind from road, But I always wanted a water proof blue tooth device inbuilt my helmet, so that when ever any call come I will stop the bike to road side and can listen the call easily without taking out the phone, helmet, gloves...Oh gosh big trouble...So for now I avoid phone calls while riding...
I have seen a online website who was selling the LS2 model with Blue tooth and MP3 device inbuilt in Helmet, But that was hell expensive (Rs. 10000), So I dropped the idea of buying it...I never seen it in any shop....KTM RC390 - Current
Yamaha R15 v2 - Sold
Hero Hunk - Sold

Re: Are Bluetooth devices for helmets worth it?
Hi all,
Actually I have also been looking for a solution on subject, have been riding with wife, but just can't communicate while riding nor can I listen to hassle free music in my helmet, tried to make one myself but that also did not work out.
Have seen those scala things on advertisement, but they are expensive and I not sure if they are worth that kind of price.

Hi, your requirement seems genuine and solutions are on the shelves. But once you get it, trust me, you might regret.Originally posted by TwilightRider View PostHi All,
Thanks for your inputs.
I found a Bluetooth system available on EBay.

Few questions for ya-
1. Will you leave your helmet strangled on the bike with a 4,000/- worth accessory attached to it?
2. Or do you intend to take your helmet wherever you go with the accessory attached to it?
3. Would you hear the vehicles honking behind you? What if you get sunk into the music completely?
Either ways, you will end up protecting the helmet rather than the helmet protecting you. Please consider the safety as well!
I am sorry if it sounds negative but I just put down my thoughts.Last edited by petrolhead_chn; 07-29-2013, 10:05 AM.My DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial
Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.
