Then try Shell AX7 10W40 semisynthetic oil. I have used it 2-3 times. Best oil at 399 Rs.

Advance is Full Synth and AX7 is Semi-Synth. AX7 runs upto 2200-2500kms easily.

I think you are getting confused. There is only one AX7 priced around 400+ and the other one is Advance Ultra priced at 820+ . There is an AX5 though, Cheaper than these two. Select the right one according to your requirements. I use the Advance Ultra 10w40 on my R15. The bike does feel a little bit rough since the stock Yamalube was a 15w50. I use my bike mostly for long distance touring and there hasn't been any heating issues during long straight runs or when being stuck under the scorching sun in heavy traffic. I actually wanted to get a Motul 7100 20w40 but all Motul's I see around are fake/replicas. Only if I could buy from KTM SVC's. Anyway the oil lasts around 4000-4500 kms. You can get it from any Shell Petrol Bunk.

Guys a small doubt...when you change engine oil from 10w30 to 10w40 oil do you feel any difference i mean vibrations, slow pick up, sluggishness.any thing like that..

And clutch slipping on fully synthetic oil is it true..

Yes, the engine becomes a little sluggish when the engine is cold. But when it becomes hot, there wont be much of a difference.

For you, the best oil would be Shell AX7 10w-40, which is Semi-S oil costing less than 400. If you still get the gear issue, show it to the SVC. It may need adjustment or replacement in that case. Solving problems with engine oil has its limitations. But, if you ride for long hours - Using xxW-40 is the best option. With this oil you will also have perceivable difference in the engine heat generation. The engine would run cooler.

I have a can of MOTUL 15W50 semi-synthetic oil packed Jan-2014. Can has no expiry date mentioned. Till when can this be used?

                2) What is the usual life of engine oil once poured into a motorcycle?
Please suggest assuming the motorcycle is barely used for 100Kms a month, with a run once every 3-4 days. Assume it is the same oil as above.

                1. Motul tests the oil for 2 years on the shelf and recommends the same shelf life. You can use it till Jan 2016. Six months from Jan 2016 in the engine = Drain at June 2016.

                2. You can keep the oil in that state for around 6 months. If you want to follow me, read my reply to Bloggingwheels below.

Any great Diesel Engine oils in the 10W30, 10W40 grades?
Thanks.. but i am not restoring my bike. Its a well conditioned relatively new bike.
My experiment with HDEOs has gone well. My Air-cooled Fazer 2011 like the oil a lot. Nowadays, I am riding only around 1.5 kms on weekdays (home to my kids bus stop) in the mornings.. The present odo reads around 20K and my monthly travel on bike has been reduced to 70-80 kms from last three months.
The last oil change was in May 2014 IIRC, when the ODO was around 18K. It was HDEO as usual. Time passes so quickly, its close to an year now that I had changed the oil . The engine is as smooth as new, even after using such an old oil. The engine cranks with a slight push of the button and no problem whatsoever. Although its a sin to keep oil for such long duration in the engine, but looking at my riding pattern, I would keep it for a month or two and then go for an oil+filter change.
Haven't seen HDEOs in those grades you mentioned.

In my experience using shell advance ultral full synthetic 10w40, cause little sluggish performance, more smooth engine and in my case high drope in mileage (58 to 47). Replaced it after 400 kms with TVS full synthetic 10w30. Now mileage increased to 55, engine is smooth but 3 km drop in mileage compared to Honda mineral oil. Engine was run more freely and noisy when using Honda mineral oil. TVS oil already covered 2000 kms.
Why Honda suggest its customers to replace the oil (mineral) after 4000 kms , is it last that much?

As far as i know no mineral oil can last for 4000km if so why do we need semi synthetic or fully synthetic oil...if using mineral oil it's better to change oil every 2000kms...they say 4000kms for mineral oil in tested conditions where they use machines to check the engine performance where we can never ride as the machines ratio we simply can't...

Mineral oil will not last more than 2k-2.2k kms with regular riding and ripping at times. The roughness starts kicking in after about 1500-1600kms itself.
