If you mean you have done your last free service. Then you have plenty of room to play with different engine oil. Most will suggest Motul. Don't simply go blindly for it just because it is a good oil.

First, you need to decide what type you want.
      1. Mineral
      2. Semi-Synthetic
      3. Fully Synthetic

Second, You want to use the same grade or be as close to ZMA recommended grade which is w30 for the ZMA 'R', and w40 for the older ZMA.

Try Motul 300v (Fully Synthetic) which may cost around 700. I don't think w30 is available, but there is w40 and w50. Get the w40.

Personally, I have already purchased Castrol Power 1 Racing (Fully Synthetic) because I cannot get Motul in w40 grade here. But I have not tried it yet as my current oil is still doing very well @ 1.6k.

                  Four-Ball Wear Test

The various oils show large differences in their ability to endure this difficult test. The one commonly available automotive mineral oil tested suffered a 41 percent loss. While this limited data does not conclude that all mineral-based automotive oils are bad, it is definitely not a good sign. Looking at the motorcycle-specific oils, it's notable that the Motul 5W-40 version does not hold up nearly as well as the 10W-40 version (in fact, slightly worse than the auto oil). Motul and Maxima both claim that their ultra-lightweight-viscosity oils would last as long as normal 10W oils. Because we only tested the Motul version, we cannot say for sure that the Maxima Maxum Ultra would suffer the same loss. Yet our dyno test shows that both these oils post a horsepower gain. We consider ultra-lightweight racing oils such as 0W and 5W a special category of race products that should be changed on a strict regimen. Before you decide to run them, you need to weigh the risk of viscosity loss versus horsepower gains and make your own decision. Until more data convinces us otherwise, we would stick to something more practical for the street.

Though this report is old and motul constantly looks at 300V to improve it I have my doubts as to how long I can use this oil?.One online site that was selling this oil instructs to change this oil every 3000Kms.

                    • bro the damage has been done.. i have already got it poured into the engine! but the thing is that i never get the time to find 20w50 grade oils of any brand. so i bought the patronas sprinta 5000 synthetic. although the engine and gears are super smooth, but now i'm half scared to death coz i think it'll screw my engine would you recommend discarding the oil??

has anyone ever had leakage problems with petronas in their pulsar 180 or avenger?? please guys help me out with this coz i get time only on sundays to get the work done and if the oil is not good for avenger, i'm sur it'll screw my engine in one week...

If you read the 1st few posts of this thread by Sandeep K Ram, you will understand that you can go with 15w50 for your Avy, but using an xw40 grade oil would not be good for her.

Company will recommend certain grade after considerable research including the climate. So using them is safest. However If you take your bike to very cold climate region, the same engine will require lower grade say like 30 or 40. Using recommended grade is best as they have also considered your climate, but a one step difference will not do serious harm as long as you dont make it permanent. No need to panic, just change back to recommended grade. I use 40 instead of 30 on my ZMA, I prefer that.
I think this link has been posted earlier but anyway you can fine good information here Car maintenance bibles: Oil Viscosity. and here Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible.

don't worry... this oil is being used in Avengers by some people and for moderately extreme riding. It is performing very well. In fact, better than with the SC's 20W50 mineral oil.

It is not just the grade you have to look at. Synthetic oils have better heat management (not a technical term but I prefer to use that word to indicate the values like Viscosity Index, Kinematic Viscosity and Flash Point) than mineral oils. If you are still uncertain, keep checking for the oil level and colour every 1000 KMs to get a vague idea about when to change.
