Why cant a synthetic run 5000 km then.

You are just MISUNDERSTANDING and CONFUSING it all.
both are true but there is a difference.

i used Gulf on my 100 cc splendor for almost 10,000+ kms so what gulf mentioned in their bottle is true

and i used gulf in my GS150 R for 2000 or 2500 max kms

moreover oil manufacturer never mentioned the life span of oil according to CC of the bike

It is the manufacturers claim. I used gulf 20w 40 on my bike and it lasts upto 2k- 2.5k kms max.

Maybe the oil lasts 10k but I dont want to ride with notchy gear shifts and vibrations for the rest 7.5k kms so I change it. .

!!! , although the splendor's engine is very tolerant of such abuse, you should not be spared for this one .

3000 kms or six months , whichever comes earlier (maximum). For a mineral based oil on a air cooled, engine-oil wet-ed clutch & transmission bike, give two hoots for whatever else they may say on the pack or the rulebook .

        • In a 650cc bike even the Motul 300V turns dark, and replaced in just 3 K Kms. The heat and physical stress must be taken into consideration, while deciding extended use of any oil....In any case like Mr.Pinaki Ji says better to change at 2 to 2.5 K Kms for 150 and 220 CC bikes and at 3 to 3.5 K Kms for 100CC bikes.Keeping the oil more than that will lead to Varnish formation and wear of engine.

            1. Cold starts on a thick oil is like torturing the engine... Oil just doesnt start flowing.. An oil pump designed for a 10w30 may not push a 20w50 with the same efficiency.
            2. Clearances gets wider.. The places where a thinner oil may have got faster, a thicker oil gets there slower and metal to metal contact happens.. Leading to widening of clearances.. Start off with the grade mentioned in your manual and when the clearances widens with time, go to a higher grade. (no options for w50 recommendations.. W60 is not available)
            3. Mileage decreases
            4. Read more about blanket formation in engine.. Its a phenomenon wherein the thick oil doesnt leave the walls of the engine and a blanket is formed inside the engine.. Hot freely flowing oil at the centre.. Thick cold oil on the walls.. Happens more with thick oils.
            5. 20w50 has more VIIs than 20w40. I dont need to explain this to an expert :-)

its the quality of oil that matters the most.. Motul, shell, gulf, elf, mobil 4t, Servo 4t ... ok valvoline too (havent used it, but read some good reviews of this brand) are some good oils in the market.
just a question sir: refers to your post are you referring to mineral oil or a synthetic oil?

my question what is the difference of 10w and 20w during start up let say the ambient temperature is 35 deg celsius?

and about blanket effect formation that you said sir i read about this at MOTOR OIL BIBLE this is happening only in Mineral based oil! because synthetic oil have uniform sizes molecules it can fit to clearance of your engine?

And 1 more question sir i read the data sheet of oils in kinematic vicosity lets say at start up Motul 300V 15w50 has a kinematic vicosity of 115.7 mm2/s during start up at 40 deg celsius it is difficult to flow right and during operating temp it has 17.01 mm2/s its easier to flow now the Sports campione 10w60 has operating kinematic vicosity of 22.4 mm2/s thus its have difficulty in flowing?

the range of w50 should be from 16.3 to 21.9 mm2/s or cst

here at philippine we have 10w60 oil called ELF SPORT4 CAMPIONE 100% PAO based Synthetic oil for only 400 pesos maybe 350 in your currency!

so sir what grade you can recommend for Pulsar 135LS? Good for City Driving and Long distance Drive Thanks!

Though i was considering w50 grade oils as a whole, but the problems are more prominent in mineral oils.

Regarding your question on 10w and 20w.. I will have to describe this using examples.
If you are considering 10w40 and 20w40..10w will have better flow at 35deg.. The reason is not the grade but the presence of part or whole quantity of synthetic oil in the 10w40 grade.
If you have two fs oils of 10w40 and 20w40 grades.. They both would have same flow at 35 deg.

We have discussed the 10w60 fs oil.. Dont put it in normal usage. Use them when you on the racetrack (race TRACK). Start the more than 600 CC engine and ride at max rpms for and hour or two.. The engine temp rises to 120 -140 deg celcius.. It keeps protecting your engine.
When you use it on normal small cc bike rides where engine rarely go above 80-90 deg celcius.. The oil is quite thick. So would not recommend it to any commuter or even a street drag racer on a less than 600 cc bike.

total quartz 7000 or any other total product is 100 percent car specific oil. They sell motorcycle oil by 'elf' grades.
Mobil 1 and agip also seem to be car specific oils.. As mobil 1 sells for cars and mobil alone for bikes and agip is 5w40 which is a rare bike grade.

                      • Need detailed reviews about petronas sprinta ss and fs... This oil is damn cheap and serves well for its price.... Still not a single review about it from others. Its only available in 10w40... Have used the ss for long...quite good. Need review from others especially the fs one
