And so does SPEED. I've always been brainwashed by it. I GUESS you would have been to at some point.

Go for Motul 5100, IF YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. No leaks, no nothing. It happens in rarest unlucky few bikes, not all of them.

    Stick to 20w50 or 15w50 not 15w40 or 20w40.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Any reason for you mentioning to stick to specific viscometrics? I am also planning to switch from yamalube to other oils. Any recommendations?? Done 7700kms.

Bigger number after W means how the oil maintains its viscosity i.e. Thickness under prolonged high temperature. So W50's viscosity is better than a W40 at demanding times which means little added protection.

Technically, the first number is Winter number, the last number is Summer number.

Better to select an oil with ZDDP and enjoy the smoothness and safety .
So any recommendations on an oil with ZDDP? Full Synthetic & grade - 15W50 or 20W50.

Diesel engine oils are your best bet when it comes to ZDDP which has been discussed numerous times.

You can go for Shell Rimula R3x or Shell Rimula R4, 15w40 grade. NOTE: Please try them at your own risk.

For Fz - Use Delvac 1300 or 1400 15w40 grade. If you have access to Rimula R4 or R3X even that would be fine.. It would increase the pleasure of riding and would also increase engine cleanliness (I am not sure that it would translate to better engine life, but that is what big oil firms make us believe).

Take precaution in first 100-200 kms and if the clutch slips for any reason(its unlikely based on my experience) shift back to 4T oils.

I am using Delvac 1300 from around 5000 kms. One question for you - What is 'summer number'?

                      Guys found a nice video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWiQyR7PWII

                      • It is indeed, but I don't wanna start off a chain reaction, why, how when and going all the way back to basics. Why not help people with what they have in hand.

                        Cheers!

Thanks bro. The oils mentioned by you are diesel oils?? Not willing to put diesel oil in bike. Nothing to speculate . My friend has suggested me MAK NXT. Any other options?

Google SAE J300, in that you will find different numbers right from 0 to 60. These numbers indicate the viscometrics for any oil. And against these numbers, there are certain parameters which the oil has to meet. The first number is winter grade, the second is summer grade. So, if a oil has viscometerics of 15W-40, there are certain limits for the oil set in the J300 chart. If the oil meets these parameters, the company claims the required viscometrics. Hope these clarifies

Muzz really knows what he's talking about. Fact of the matter is it applies to any oil. They didn't specify any gasoline engine per se, but it can mean to gasoline engines and diesel engines. It's just to get an idea as to the properties of the oil.

You're absolutely right about the summer/winter grade etc etc.

As people who've used diesel have rightly provided their discretion. So it's upto ones discretion to use diesel engine oil or gasoline engine oil.

                            Cheers!

Well bro, i never said whose wrong whose right. Just like he kept his view for recommendation, i kept my view for which oil i want to put.

Also, i just clarified the doubt he had for summer grade. And to make you aware, bike engine oils require more amount of anti-wear in them, as compared to diesel or petrol engine oils. You have rightly said, its upto ones discretion to use what.
