Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I had a very bad experience with Castrol Power 1 SS 15w40 in my bike. The oil was pure, new bottle.. just bought a month before icc world cup and the bottle was a freshly introduced bottle with sachins pic on it. The pack was a tamper proof one and there was no chance that it was spurious.

The oil was very good for the first 500 kms.. but after that the oil just died, engine noise and harshness set in and i changed it immediately. There are only a few oil from castrol that are good.. Castrol Power 1 FS oil, Castrol Magnatec 'professional', Castrol edge. Apart from that, they are selling very sub standard products. They may be good on 100 cc or below non-racing bikes, but above them.. risky.

Burning smell is normal on new engines. If your engine is less than 10K you may get that smell. The burning smell may be from the oil or from burning paint and other stuff. If you are sure that it is from engine oil and you did not abuse the clutch, change the oil.

So many bad experiences with the oil here

my engine has done nearly 19k.. So there shouldn't be any paint burning or anything like that..
ya.. I was noticing the smell for a few days when the bike is hot.. And today while checking the oil, i smelled it and it was the same..
abusing the clutch.. Ummm.. I don't drive rash and don't keep even a bit pressed..

If you are getting paranoid on oil and if its done 300km+ its better you change it and keep drained oil for lubing purposes ( not lubing the chain , just some joints or jammed screws )
You have a FZ i see , so try Yamalube oils chances are slim that they will be fake from svc . AFAIK Yamalube makes mineral ,SS and FS . Try Veedol 10W40 or Shell 10W40 both are very good SS oils . I use OE oil and change it at 1K kms no problems whatsoever and cheap on pocket

Guys is there any way a manufacturer (yamaha) can find which brand engine oil we use?? I mean if the grade and type (mineral or synth) is same as recommended oil, can they identify that am using Motul instead of yamalube ??

And if they cone to know that am using motul, will it void my warranty??

                  Thanks

By looking at the oil, they cannot find it. The only way they can find is by looking at the free service invoices. To keep the warranty, it will be good if you fill in with the recommended oil. You maybe filling a better oil. But, companies ouy here just need an oppurtunity to put their hand up and blame it completely on customer :banghead:

Highly unlikely, it's like looking a girl and saying whether she's virgin or not But once an oil is gunked up, no matter which color you pour in the color that comes out is what matters, and most mechs don't even care. Yamalube or Motul or Mobil.

But, when you're in warranty and in some *strange cases* if you think you'd void your warranty, stick to the safe game and always say you've used the manufacturer recommended oils, even though you've used higher priced, superior oils.

                        Cheers!

He he thanks... Nice explanation there. But suppose if the warranty claim if on engine parts like cylinder and piston, even the R&D department can't figure out?? Bcz I heard many cases where a cylinder or piston would fail, but they can still figure out whether the person has Run-in Properly.. I dunno how

Replaced 1800km old Bajaj Oil with Motul 5100 -15w50- on 22-June.
Next Day on 23-June, I did successful 750km from Mumbai to Hyderabad.
The gear was a bit harsh earlier & I thought maybe because it need service but it became smooth after Pouring Motul !

                            400-500km done in-out Hyderabad.

Today Morning to Evening Did 782km from Hyderabad to Mumbai.

I'll check the Oil Level & its quality tomorrow & update here

The oil worked like a charm.
Earlier @ 1800km Bike was giving signals of Service.
Just oil change & it did successful 2000+ km

                            And 1500km out of 2000 was 110 - 130 kmph !
