point taken, my contention was to clear out rains before next oil change hence keeping tab on speeds plus taking opiniom from you fine people....

      btw , is AX7 (10w40) the recomended grade for RTR160 ?

The feeling I often get is many riders here are overspending on oil , trying to get the very best for their rides . Then justifying that extra wad of money spend by extending the oil drain interval , often to the unsafe side of things . All I can say is that this is a false economy , likely to cost you even more in the long run .
Thanks. The oil that TVS service centers use (TVS TRU4) is of 10W30 grade. But vibrations and engine stressing at higher RPMs are more noticeable in that oil. After using AX7, the rider footpeg vibes came down noticeably. The bike revs more freely. But money is not a problem for me in changing the oil within the drain interval Lack of time, laziness and "it's still under 3K km range" attitude were the reasons for extending the period

      • Re: Engine Oils

What is the oil grade recomended in your bike's owner's manual ? TVS Tru4 is available in a few grades and TVS service centers are known to use whichever they have handy . So don't rely on their choice , better to use near whatever your bike's book says .

When was the last oil change? Since how many kms have you beeb using motul oil? Hope you change the oil filter when changing the oil.

Check for the oil level after such trip. Else, nothing is to be checked.

So, thats 1850kms. You can change the oil now or change it at around 2000kms (just a opinion).

i think you should change the oil.. 1st and 2nd services should be done as early as possible in the recommended km range..
it would be good if you go for oil change..

                  Ride safe and have fun.

When the bike is in the run-in period, always always have an eye on the oil level even after 100 KM trip. A new engine can heat up pretty fast and low oil is the next to worst things one can expect. Now that you've changed your oil absolutely no need to fuss. Just check the oil level on the oil window, as run in period and oil upto mark is absolutely imperative.

Run in for bikes is usually first 1000kms.

Do's & dont's are clearly mentioned in the manual.

During run in period and to keep your warranty till the free service period, the best bet will be to go with the SVC oil.

The run in details are tabulated in your owner's manual.

First off defining run-in time is like calm before storm phrase, where the engine needs its time to set it for the tough job ahead. Like any new engine, a new engine needs a run in/set in period because it helps the engine components to hone itself to the proper level before getting the abuse.

5100 and 7100 is one of the best oils for the 220 and I'd recommend you the 5100 for your bike.

                          Dos
                          Vary engine speed/occasional throttle bursts
Check engine oil level daily till the run in period.
Get it serviced periodically as per the manual to avoid void of warranty.

                          Don'ts
Don't rev it too hard, and that doesn't mean you can't rev it, but don't redline.
Avoid long distance trips and that too without breaks, can
Don't glaze at a constant speed (see Do's pt number 1)
And most of all, DON'T GIVE YOUR BIKE TO OTHERS very important especially during run in. Personal thought though.

                          Cheers!

I own a CBR 150R and it just passed the warranty period last month. I like to change the engine oil to Motul. It ran around 1100 kms with the last oil change. The performance is not good at all. Gears are rough. Can I change the oil now or later?

Also where can I get Motul oil in Chennai?

How many kms done? Real smoothness can only be expected past 5K kms. You can do 5100 15W50 SS or then go fully synth at 7100 10w40. Good if you change now so that if the roughness doesn't go after about 100-200 kms after changing, then you'll know that the problem lies elsewhere. If it lies elsewhere...
