Rimula R4 is also CI-4, so people using this oil must be experiencing what I have started to experience.

    Shell Rimula R4 - India

All the tests are same as mentioned in that article.

Secondly, CI-4 users would be "real winners" as mentioned in the article because at that moment of time (2002) when this article was written, CJ-4 oil was not invented ;-)

Indeed. I did see a replica of what was in the two part article link you've posted before. Still skeptical to use it in my 220 which requires w50 considering the Delvac is already doing duty on the Victor. But I've given it time to see how it really performs. If all goes well, then R3/R4 might be serving dual purpose on both machines.

Again, excellent info. Keep the good work up.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

I did, he revved it completely and saw some black smoke and immediately came to the conclusion of rebore, he quoted a price of 3.5k and svc did the same check and quoted minimum 12k. But I feel that is the residual old oil since the new oil isnt reduced.

Get it checked at some other svc and also a good mech known to you. It shouldn't cost you anyway 12k that's way too high. Piston block change should cost you max 2500. Last year I saw an unicorn with piston bore kit change. As long as I remember it costed him something around 2500 including mech charge. He did it feom local mech.

This is a local mech known to me who quoted 3.5k thats including parts but I'd rather buy the parts myself and give it to him. If its a piston ring leak I'm planning to use cbz xtreme bore kit which costs 3.2k, I dont trust reboring.

Guys, need your expert advice. My bike discover 125ST has completed 8k on odo and is due 5th service next month. I want to go with some other oil than the usual Bajaj dtsi oil(20W40) and see if it fixes the engine vibrations. Which brand oil will be good ?, please advice. Thanks.

The black smoke that came out, was it continuous or just a small pout of smoke?

                  Cheerz!!

Continuous puffs at red line rpm no smoke at all while normal riding.

Remember that paddock stands or under-engine supports are not possible to apply by yourself alone , you'll need someone to hold the bike while you apply the stand and this is not always possible on the road . So it's not exactly a substitute for a center stand , check if some type of center stand is fit-able in the bike .

My suggestion is either Gulf pride 4T plus 10W30 ( synthetic blend , around Rs 230 ) or Gulf Synth 4t plus ( Synthetic , around Rs 300 ) . Both are equally excellent .

All oils thin out when heated , even multigrade oil - and they never thicken unless cooled . The first number is the weight of the base oil . The second number signifies that the oil never thins out more than what a 40 weight oil would at the hot operating temp . So even the 20w40 oil flows out better when hot . Also if you've run the bike some and oil is hot , it would have mixed up sediment dirt (if any) which then would flow out .

Never let them fill that 10w30 oil in your bike , seriously . Stick to 20w40 - plenty of great oils available in that grade .

If that is the case, then i really dont think that the piston block has gone kaput. What oil are you using? You use the recommended grade? Also, does the oil level drop significantly?

I was using motul 3000 20w40 for 2 years till last oil change when I noticed the oil drop to 500ml in just 2k km. Now I switched to shell ax7 riding it for about 200+ km now and the oil hasnt reduced so far.

Cover some more kms and check the oil level at regular intervals. What do you ride?
