Re: Engine Oils
after recent oil change which was Honda 10w30 mineral, my impulse engine is heating up alot even on highways. today i heard a loud thud sound from engine while riding on highway which somewhat unsettled balance for a second. i don't know what was it. Experts please advise. is it because of bad oil? though oil level is ok. i measured it this evening after the ride but i saw one drop of oil hanging from the drain bolt under the engine. i wiped it with a cloth. tomorrow morning ill check if another drop is there... but i could feel the heat on my shin n toes so much that i felt like not riding it.

Re: Engine Oils
yes. i put Honda 10w30. since my bike is only 5200 kms old i thought of upgrading to synthetic or semisynth oils of good brands like motul or shell after around 10000 kms. till then i am using Honda mineral 10w30.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostWhich oil are you using? Re: Engine Oils
Good decision mate, you surely will get returns on this decision in the long run. This duration is recommended so the gaskets and seal will set properly and give you trouble and/or leak free engine.Originally posted by bavlo View Postyes. i put Honda 10w30. since my bike is only 5200 kms old i thought of upgrading to synthetic or semisynth oils of good brands like motul or shell after around 10000 kms. till then i am using Honda mineral 10w30.

Re: Engine Oils
Guys,
This is regarding the recommended oil grade for discover 125 ST:
I queried the bajaj guys about the oil grade to be used and got answer that the recommended oil grade is 20w50. Attached screenshot for reference. But in their website: Bajaj they are displaying the wrong grade 20w40. Not sure why.
My concern is I had got 20w40 Shell Ax5 for bike's servicing recently and I'm little worried now as apparently it is not the recommended one. Is this going to affect the engine performance?.

Re: Engine Oils
20w50 will certainly improve your ride quality and give you a smooth ride as compared to 20w40. Bajaj doesn't upgrade there information over internet. Ask the floor supervisor which grade of oil you are suppose to use. If it is 20w50 you should use that only. If it is 20w40 and you are using 20w50 then it is ok.Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View Post20w40 and 20w50 is not that different, it should be ok to use

Re: Engine Oils
the difference is quite noticeable actually, if you live in a hotter climatic condition the xxW40 will not be of much use and on prolonged running the engine will be more prone to over-heating as the viscosity of the oil is not that much as compared to the xxW50, if you are in a place with colder climatic conditions then a xxW40 should suffice.Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View Post20w40 and 20w50 is not that different, it should be ok to use

The another added advantage of xxW40 is that cold starts will be less a bother than using xxW50, that again attribute of the lesser viscosity.
Cheers

Re: Engine Oils
First off, please check with your owners manual that what is recommended for your bike. xxW40 and xxW50 both are ok for the motor your bike has as this change for small motors is not much, but if you want better Life in long run then stick to xxW50 grade. For now please don't sweat on it, if you don't ride it hard. Use it like normal and change the oil in next service. xxW40 will flow a lot better than xxW50, hence you get good top end and better cold starts, whereas in case of xxW50, you will get good protection during the spirited rides and a slightly toned down top end, but expect the engine to be smooth. That is about it. Don't worry, just ride.Originally posted by md_minhaj View PostGuys,
