  • Re: Engine Oils

    I'm in a confusion here.
My Honda Dio 2012 has Honda Authorized Service Center Engine & Gear box Oil(Mineral) which was changed once at 2k, now scooter is about to hit 4000kms mark.
Now, Should I go for a semi synthetic oil like Shell Advance AX7 10W40 or directly go for fully synthetic oil like Shell Advance Ultra 10W40?.
Some of my friends told me that I should run the scooter with Semi Synthetic Oil for about 1k or 2k then switch to Shell Advance Ultra 10W40 Fully Synthetic ?
    I'm going to change my oil 2moro & I'm confused :-(
    Please Help me.

To be honest a FS oil wouldn't make much of a difference on a 100cc scoot, so if u use SS or FS it'll be the same, so save money and use SS oil.

Alright guys, I got Honda Dio's oil changed to Shell Advance AX7 Semi Synthetic from default Honda engine oil (engine oil is used in Honda ASC).
& I got Shell Advance AX7 SS from Shell Petrol Bunk in Nayandahalli, Bangalore.
          It costed me Rs. 375/-.
I was asked to scratch a Scratch & Win Offer Card, got a Key Chain .
Bagged some Sticker Goodies too. .
Then after Engine Oil change at Shell, I went to my good ol' mechanic to update gear box oil as Shell doesn't change gear box oil but my mechanic said, "No need to change sir, it is not that bad". But I will update it after 1K or so.
I took the scooter for a ride it's engine is now as smooth as butter . Let's see how it turns out after running a few more kilometers.
Every Xbhpian who helped me with their reviews about Engine Oils, Thank you.

As per my experience/experiments with a variety of engine oils on honda dio , the best oil for a scooter would be a hdeo like shell rimula R3x 15w40 or mobil delvac 1300 15w40

1300 super (Delvac) is currently used on my GS and is a good oil. Specs wise AX-7/Ultra are very near to HDEO R4 (which has lower sulphated ash than R3X). In his case,
using AX-7 is as good as using a HDEO like R4.

Though this seems a viable option, Gulf Pride also mentions 10000kms drain interval on label itself, but practically doesnt last anymore than 3k. No idea about SHARLU oils though.

SHARLU is basically a JV between a local magnate and UAE Oil Company, and this guy owns and operates quite a lot of spare part shops, very famed ones. But once you ask oil, they just hand you this brand, in whatever grades you want, Fork oil? Check? Engine oil? Check, Mineral? Check, SS check? FS check? But reliabliability absolutely clueless, Currently using their fork oil, so far so good. But this is just pure bs. And the best part, you get a watch or a tee free with every can of SHARLU oil purchase. Hilarious!

                            Cheers!

Finding a genuine Castrol product is diffcult, since market is flooded with fake Castrol oils. I would suggest you to go for Shell.
