Re: Engine Oils
Arey baba.. Use the castrol activ scooter 20w40. you don't need semi synthetic or fancy stuff for a little scooter. Just ensure regular oil changes at approx 2000km.Originally posted by Saurabh213 View PostPls Name Some Good 20W-40 Semi-Synthetic Engine Oil For Summers

Its not like winters in india are freezing cold that it requires a totally different grade, 20w40 will still hold good , if not get the Castrol activ scooter 10w30 or the honda oem 10w30 (golden bottle)
Castrol activ scooter is made in both 20w40 and 10w30 JASO MB (the 10w30 bottle has the term 'zip boosters' printed on it)

Just go for castrol active scooter oil 20w40 or the motul scooter oil. You dont need yamalube amd semi synthetic or synthetics. Yours is a gearless scooter do you want slippage of internal parts etc?

Earlier I Used Mineral Oil, The Scooter Used To Vibrate Alot And Sound Was Very Loud.
And Then Once I Used A Semi-Synthetic Oil Which Was Like Heaven! All The Vibrations Were Gone ,The Scooter Was Silent And Very Smooth...
But Soon After 1 Month Or So The Effects Vanished It Again Started To Produce Loud Noise And Heavy Vibrations.!
Oil Used:
Mineral- TVS TRU4
Semi-Synthetic-TVS Tru4 Premium
And Using The Same Grade In Winters Cause Problems In Starting The Scooter In Mornings..Last edited by Saurabh213; 04-07-2014, 03:34 PM.

What do you mean by 'slippage of internal parts' ?? Using a motorcycle engine oil (jaso ma/ma2) will not cause any 'slippage'Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View PostJust go for castrol active scooter oil 20w40 or the motul scooter oil. Gearless scooter engine oils (JASO MB)are MORE 'slippery' than motorcycle oil (JASO MA/MA2)
These gearless scooters do not have a wet clutch, and hence the oil is 'slippery' so that it can further reduce friction compared to a motorcycle oil.
Motorcycles meanwhile have wet clutches, where a JASO MB oil could cause clutch slip due to the 'slipperiness' of the oil. If you look at the warning on the castrol activ scooter, it will clearly say that it is not to be used on motorcycles !
Pl try to do some research (maybe starting from page 1 of this thread) the next time you think of posting something off the top off your head.. it's not like information is difficult to access these days. JASO MA and JASO MB classifications - oilspecifications.org

Don't blame the oil, there is something else wrong with the scooter. Fresh oil will feel smoother initially.Originally posted by Saurabh213 View PostEarlier I Used Mineral Oil, The Scooter Used To Vibrate Alot And Sound Was Very Loud.

Get the valve clearances, timing chain adjusted and the carb cleaned and tuned. Hopefully you are not losing engine oil either due to consumption or leakage, are you?

Re: Engine Oils
I have used a motorcycle oil namely "motul 300v"
On an activa...
Try using it once,
The scooter refused to pull hard and revved high and still felt there is loss of power.
Obviously something was wrong inside and an oil change later it was all fine. Hence motorcycle oil in scooter was to be blamed.
Similarly a scooter oil in a motorcycle always caused clucth slippage.
I just didnt want him to be using a bike oil in a scooter and vice versa.
As far as I know yamalube specific to scooters is not there maybe I am wrong.
We are all here to gain knowledge my friend.
It is my request to you that even if I am wrong pleqse be polite in your explanation and dont ask me to read from the first page etc.

Yamalube does have Engine Oil for scooters. The one that goes in Yamaha Ray/Ray-Z is scooter oil.Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View PostAs far as I know yamalube specific to scooters is not there maybe I am wrong.

Re: Engine Oils
Hello brother, using a car oil isOriginally posted by Saurabh213 View PostThat Means We Can Use Car Oil In Scooter ?
Not advisable my friend.
See, at the end of the day oil is oil. Its just that diffrent comapanies use diffrent methods, technologies and additives to make.....'oil'
Now. Oils are of different grade and bike oils are different than car oils and have lesser additives to aid lubrication since we use a wet multiplate clutch in most/all common bikes.
Also bike oils are thinner (read less viscous) due to the high revving nature of bike engines compared to car engines....
Now, your scooter does not use a wet clutch hence... ideally a car oil should suit your scooter but then its a high revving single cylinder engine unlike the car but personally I would not advise it.
Try getting a scooter oil only. If possible order it online it will be cheaper and you can be sure of its genuineness.
All in all brother I will request you personally to get the motul scooter oil. Trust me it will be good for you, order a few bottles and keep them....
Ps:- I think you should find a good brand for your cars and bikes and stick to them, initial experiments with different oils are good, but in the long run sticking to one oil is best.
I am not an expert buddy but i hope I am helpful to you.
Try to do the following
This is what I do-
Summers I use a 20w40 or 20w50 oil
Winters I use a 10w30 oil
Stick to one brand if possible motul or castrol or yamalube or whatever suits you
Order it online one can of each try all, what you find best use dat hamesha.

Just so you know, Gearless scooter specific engine oils (i.e. JASO MB) are being sold here in India only as recently as the past 3-4 years. What do you think was used earlier ?
It was the JASO MA/MA2 motorcycles oils. And I have used these grades without any issues. In fact the Shell AX5 was really good.
Motul 300v is ideally built for high revving engines (and there have been plenty of people reporting leakages with this oil on our desi bikes).. now dont call these scooters as high revving.. PLEASEE!!
We are all here to learn.. and how do you expect to learn if you are not willing to read what has been said and discussed on this topic ? If you just want to come in and post something which might misguide others and do not want to be corrected, then i shall stop doing so.
I am not here to start a war, and if you were offended.. kindly ignore my posts and let me know and I shall not comment/reply to your posts.
Well, there you have your issue.. What quote do you need ? Cost of piston/rings kit ? or bore kit ?Originally posted by Saurabh213 View PostYes I Am Losing Engine Oil Because Of Consumption, Faulty Piston Rings I Already Asked For A Quote But No One Helped Me...
Cost of only piston+ring kit will be around 500-600rs and a complete bore+piston kit should cost around 2.5k -- labor max 700.
Yes you can. It should be the right grade (20w40/10w30)Originally posted by Saurabh213 View PostThat Means We Can Use Car Oil In Scooter ?
Unless you fix the underlying mechanical issues with your scooter, no oil will help you..
Its only going to burn a hole thru your pocket due to the oil consumption

Do not worry my friend, compression loss and worn piston rings etc happen to every vehicle at some point of its life.
Go to a good mechanic and ask for a parts list required for a complete bore piston change.
Rebores are usually screwd up by mechanics but sometimes they do a good job too. Now its not worth the risk unless you trust the mechanic.
Buy the parts and pay the mechanic for labour only,
Use a mineral oil after the job to aid run in then you may switch to semi synthetics....
