Does it deteriorate when left unused ? I think so, but being a semi synthetic it shouldn't,
Ester contqining oils are sensitive to deterioration with air I herd, now someone needs to confirm,
Also does thi mean motuk 3100 and 3000 contain esters

Ahhh sigh of relief bhai, i thought a new oil is having some kind of grains, yes some oil do deteriorate or should i say tends to get thicker with time becuase oil has an behaviour of getting to its older form so that's why you might be feeling that graining kind of substance in the oil. Same is the case with gasoline or petrol, if you leave some amount of petrol in your vehicles's gas tank and leave it for say 15 to 25 years and check it after this period you will find the petrol has converted to some kind of red rock.

You mean like M.Sc. Chemistry or something else?

Are there any independent labs in India which perform Used[Virgin]-Oil-Analysis (UOA / VOA) like western counterparts?

Volkswagen does oil analysis for the cars that come in for service, ill be going there someday hopefully will request them to send a sample of my bikes oil too if they agree, im willing to pay for it though.

Sometimes the best way to check how your engine has been running is with your senses,

Dip a finger on the oil and rub it on your palm, feels thin and watery maybe even like a little salt in it(fine granularity)? You have been running too hot,(lean)
Has blackish particular matter in small sizes? Running rich, or on bad quality fuel too maybe,
Smell the oil does it smell like it has petrol mixed in it? Running rich.
Does it have greese like globs? Sludge buildup inside of your engine,

Take a magnet and tie a thread on it and roll it around in the drained oil, if it picks up metal particles, (mostly after run in) then ok, (if its after 5 to 6 k km or under 10k km run) then also ok! Some bikes internals are of harder wearing parts and take longer for run in, hero honda splendor's, yamaha crux and cast iron enfields thumbs up ,thats why maybe your getting metal even later but it should reduce eventually! if its many many kms after run in(above 10k kms on odo... and you get a lot of metal particles then something is wearing down inside, alert!

Pass it through a strainer(fine plastic white sieved one used for tea filtering, or a very fine white cloth over a container), any brownish particles or chae patti like particles? Too much of this means clutch plate is wearing down. Adjust it maybe or if its nearing its life change them.

At about 55 thousand kms on my odo , I did this and found brown particles, few days also was noticing clutch operation was hard and gearshift clunky, bike didn't pull away easily or just popped away!, clutch plates were worn found it few days later, changed them too.

          One more way,
Put a finger in a cold silencer and I mean cold, if the residue on your finger is a lot! And black and matt non glossy your running rich or bad fuel, if its hardish grainly even smells weird(burt milk smell) and dosent wash off easily your burning oil!

Another way to check on the engine oil has lost viscosity is to
Rub it between the thumb and index finger
Now seperate the thumb/index slowly apart. If the oil (visvosity) has broken down, it will seperate instantly, hence bad oil change it.- if its GOOD, there will be a thin film between the two when seperated*say .5cm to 1cm, like separating shampoo or honey between your fingers..(hmmm honey)

Also if you guys have read I recently stated that a stored oil looked and felt weird even though it was closed after opening and then stored. I dug a little deeper and found out yes oils do expire but not anytime soon, if your oil stored or bought looks and feels weird its mostly because somehow it got contaminated and not because it expired.
          Here what to check
Settling out of the additives as a gel or sticky liquid at the bottom of the container
          Precipitates/solid material
          Colour change or haziness
Water contamination in a oil can be detected by a "milky" appearance
          All indicate contaminated oil.

Sorry guys im still in college I cant provide scientific methods yet, but you can try this,
Old timers in my family taught me these
Maybe they work maybe they dont but its a good way for me, tells me the story inside

For other guys who want to try scientific lab testing on oils try contacting a vw or fiat or skoda showroom near your place and request them to send it if they do so

          Hope it helps,

          divyansh....

Though this should work and TVS bikes have magnetic drain-plugs for this same purpose , it would be very dangerous to loose anything inside the oil sump , magnets may get stuck etc .... then you have to open the case and find it ... else bike is kaput !

:P that is why I said drained oil
A friend of mine lost a dip stick (broke off from the refill hole wala knob and went into the engine a loud bang after a few kms of riding and a lot inside his engine was screwd up unlucky little fellow, I told him dont ride like that..
Ps:- new pulsar 200ns has 2 oil filters, one is a normal paper type filter near the oil pump, which is replaceable and other is a magnetic sieve filter inside the drain bolt
Nice to see new manufacturers taking oil filtering seriously

                    Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Thats what I was saying a few days back on this forum. Feel the oil with your fingers. An experienced guy would tell the usability of the oil by touching it.

but beware Divyansh!!. when I had posted this same info on this forum, there was a lot of debate to prove this method wrong.

Anyways. Nice info to go through. Do post some more of such knowledge.

Debate should be on healthier note and not to show someone down, feeling and replacing oil or smelling and replacing oil is as old technique as the oil itself, and when so many people are in a same place than they will have a go at each other it's natural. So bro just keep spreading your knowledge and your experience.

The Yezdi was manufactured in 1970s by Ideal Java India Ltd . A 2 stroke 250 cc motorcycle with the name of Roadking. 40 ml of SAE50 oil was mixed directly with 1 liter of petrol while filling the tank.

For Yezdi gearbox oil sae 50 is recommended in 1973 service manual. Multigrade oils as 20w40 is not suitable for the engine.

Magnetic drain bolts are used in most bikes these days Pulsars always have magnetic drain bolts and TVS from what I reckon they've used a strainer instead of a magnet, which does a good job of filtering the oil. The magnetic one is good stuff, have seen broken bearing components get caught up in the magnetic drain bolt of the Pulsar. Magnetic drain bolts won't be compatible with drain threads that have a system for oil strainer.

                                Cheers!
