Re: Engine Oils
Damm! Thats 6 yrs :banghead: why did you buy it?! Also no it dosent expire but over time the additives and compounds break up etc and settle down, also no matter what anyone tells you every oil. And I mean every oil.. has a tendency to blister and eat through plastic cans overtime. Personally.... I wouldnt pour it but engine oils are not known to go bad... unfortunately you dont get them in containers that allow that. A can (metal or something non reactive can keep it for longer)Originally posted by Ishwor View Post

Re: Engine Oil
Contact this man at 9779851043405.. he's called manoj bachhan who can supply motul in kathmandu. Got this info via facebook. I called him once and asked him the price of motul 5100 20w50 for my ns but he quoted around rs 1400 for a litre which made me forget about it.Originally posted by Ishwor View PostToday bought castrol power 1 20 w40.Searched all over kathmandu for motul but couldnt get.
Every shop keeper suggested to go for castrol magnetic or gtx.
I bought this pack from castrol head office for nepal but the bottle was manufactured in 2008.
Does engine has expiry date? Or is it fine to use this one?

Re: Engine Oils
guys, is the number on the bottle of motul the drain interval. if so what does 300v mean?Originally posted by SparKot View Post^^^ Nice, you can also try to find Valvoline & Gulf oils in 20w50 grade.
Visited Sapna AutoSpares (MotorCycle House) JC Road BLR (Motul Auth Dist):
They have a new stock of imported engine-oils; all I could see was 5-6 bottles in each grade on the counter-table. A truck load mineral oils stock as seen few days back.
Prices that I can recollect seeing on the bottles by series:
3100 : 375/-
5100 : 575/-
7100 : 805/-
300v : 1150/-
These are MRP and retailer is known to sell them about 8-10% lesser than MRP for individual bottle.
And they don't have 5L cans of Engine-Oils either; nor did they get 80-90 All-Gear oil. Makes me wonder who was that bugger making the authoritative statement the other day.
cheers

Re: Engine Oils
No, they're mere series numbers, like we have version numbers for softwares.Originally posted by denverrodricks View Postguys, is the number on the bottle of motul the drain interval. if so what does 300v mean?

Re: Engine Oil Periodic Partial Replacement
Guys, what's your take on Periodic Partial Engine Oil Replacement.
Say,- I've a 150cc motorcycle with 1L engine-oil sump size.
- I pour in fresh 1L Motul 7100 10w40 Fully-Synth with new Oil-Filter.
- I pump out 200 ml every 2,000 kms and top up with Motul 7100 10w40 Fully-Synth.
- Replace Oil-Filter with a presoaked one every 10,000 kms afterwards.
I remember someone pointing out in this thread that a Royal-Enfield was ridden with only top-ups
.
Honestly, it's hard to say actually.Originally posted by denverrodricks View Postokay, thanx!
any idea about drain interval for 15w50 3100 and 15w50 5100 (SS)?

To our surprise, the test-paper shows used oil performs better than new one.Last edited by SparKot; 07-16-2014, 10:14 PM.There is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa

Hey buddy all is well?
All bikes can be ridden with topups but what if the oil levels dont fall as much? And the oil has lost its smootheness and feels rough as hell..? How to top up then? Your method will be quite cumbdrsomd I belive... if you open the oil fiktet sll thr oil will pour out... then you will messure 800ml old oil mix it with 200ml fresh oil and a preoiled filter.... or.
Drain the old shit put new one and replace with presoaked oil? Easy ehh? Why do partial engone oil replacemnt.?
Honestly, it's hard to say actually.

Well new oils do need tempering heating addition of burnt carbon deposits and a lot more to be properly "runn in" of I may...

Re: Engine Oil Periodic Partial Replacement
Used a Motul 7100 for my CBR 150 for the past 6000 kms. Do I need to change as most of the last 1100 km was in the city. I lost the smooth feeling which was present upto 5000 kms. Now there is vibrations near the gear lever whenever i change. Im off to a long trip in 8 days. So inputs please!Sometimes you gotta run before you can walk ! - Tony Stark

Change the oil asap. Even for a FS oil 6k kms is too long. 3000-4000kms is at the most.
Ride safe and have fun.

Why do partial engine oil replacement.?
...
- We know fresh engine-oil with detergents washes off the anti-wear additives & causes wearing during engine-oil break-in period, or so to speak.
- After detergents wear of with suspended wear particles, anti-wear additives kick-in & cling to rubbing surfaces, coz both of them can't be active at the same time.
- Motul 7100 series is expensive, at least 750/- per ltr. I'm thinking of moving to 7100 series from the current 5100.
Yes, taking out 200 ml is cumbersome & I'm not a firm believer in shorter OCI (Oil-Change-Intervals) either. There is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa

Re: Engine Oil Periodic Partial Replacement
Hmm. Didnt think of it that way..but I dont suppose the petrol engine oils are too high on detergents... diesels oils are... petrol oils mearly suspend excess carbon deposits and are unable to fully 'clean' an engine or get rid of all carbon deposits from the inside. Plus I belive some/ most of the carbon deposits are essential for the smooth mating surfaces etc. Also... shouldnt an oil with high suspended carbon content be less lubricating then fresh oil that dosent have any suspended particles? ( all oils will eventually have suspended particles of carbon etc in them since thats a job of the oil, but im talking about the initial stages)Originally posted by SparKot View Postprelude : idle brain

Any links to understanding oil 'run in' on a deeper level?
