Change the oil asap. Even for a FS oil 6k kms is too long. 3000-4000kms is at the most.
Thx for the reply! I thought FS can last longer. And btw Im planning to put in the Honda recommended oil. Is it better to continue Motul or switch to Honda oil?

Continue using Motul, but keep the drain interval little less. Like for 7100, drain at 4000kms etc.

      Ride safe and have fun.

None to support drain-intervals & wear-rate on smaller(1L) sump-size motorcycles like in most of the south-east Asia.

Will you please explain how does time matters for oil change?
Shouldn't only kms run taken into account?

Oils tend to oxidize over time and hence its not recommended to use old oils.
Mineral oils tend to oxidize much faster.

Generally they should be changed. Rest upto the owner.

Since my running is low, irrespective of oil used, I generally don't stretch the oil above 90-100 days.

                        • Re: Engine Oils

Difference is between the boiling point of the fluid dot4 will have higher boiling point than 3. Dot 3 and 4 are polyethylene glycol based fluid dot 3 4 and 5.1 is an hygroscopic oil hence it absorbs water from the atmosphere which will degrade the fluid and if left in the fluid will reduce it boiling point and hamper the braking performance in your vehicle, if a vehicle uses dot 3 oil then it may also use dot 4 and 5.1, if a vehicle mentions dot 4 fluid then using of dot 3 might boil the brake fluid.

Dot3 brake fluid has a very good dry boiling capacity, and a very good wet boiling capacity as well. Once the fluid is exposed to the atmosphere and to water they act quickly, and very well, dot 3 has a high boiling point of 284degrees which is good for bigger brake drums and thick rotors as the heat can be dissipated easily.
Dot4 brake fluid acts better with a dry boiling capacity, however, they do not act so fast when it comes to the wet boiling capacity, dot 4 has got an boiling point of 311 degree.

Colour is added in the brake fluid to detect the leakage in the fluid and with different colour its easier to detect the grade of the fluid.

For a new bike how many kms should be completed before synthetic or semi synthetic oil can be used?

Currently I'm on Shell mineral oil(their cheapest product don't know its name) and gave completed 2200~kms.

                            Thanks.

Edit: I don't drive regularly so even though kms are low my engine oil is more than 6 months old should I change it?

Since your running is low, use mineral oil.

Change your 6 month oil ASAP. Which bike do you ride?

Thanks, I will change it soon. I read that only after 3000kms should SS oil be tried, is that true or is it too soon?
