        Castrol CRB Mini-Truck

        Any of the HDEO loyalists tried the new Castrol CRB Mini-truck CH-4? Castrol claims this oil is more resistant to wear (wear due to high temperatures). Also any idea what CRB means in Castrol's nomenclature?

          After around 10,000 kms on HDEOs, I have encountered clutch slippage after some 20 kms of continuous riding today. The oil inside was Valvoline All Fleet Turbo 15w40 API CH4. I have to revert to 4T specific oils now as I cant continue to ride with a slipping clutch.
          Have poured in Valvoline API-SN, JASO MA2 oil. The engine braking is back. I didnt even knew that I lost engine braking over the years, as the feeling went slowly after thousands of kms on HDEOs.
          Although HDEOs are very cost effective and smoothens the ride a lot. Repeated usage and keeping the bike on them for prolonged duration (more than 3 years in my case) may cause clutch slippage. It may be an oil specific issue. But, I am reverting to 4T specific oils for the time being.

              Contrary to many I found negligible difference in using rimula r4 over bike specific oils. In fact smoothness similar to what I had experienced in gulf pride 20w40 which was best till date was met for few 100kms and then roughness creeped in. I am planning to change over to shell advance ax7 in a few hundred kms after reaching 1k kms. I also found the oil to be thick and made bike sluggish on r4.

                Yes, initial few kms are sluggish in comparison to other w40 oils, but once the engine warms up, both HDEO 15w40 and normal 4T 15w40, 20w40 appear the same.

                It depends. If I encounter the problems that I used to face with mineral 4t oils, I would go back to HDEOs. Actually, my bike's running has reduced a lot and I can go ahead with any oil for that matter. I may be doing 2000 kms / year, any standard oil would help me do that comfortably.

                  It depends. If I encounter the problems that I used to face with mineral 4t oils, I would go back to HDEOs. Actually, my bike's running has reduced a lot and I can go ahead with any oil for that matter. I may be doing 2000 kms / year, any standard oil would help me do that comfortably.
                  But then what many quoted here saying it is as good as synthetic oils were not true in my case. Agree on the part once engine is warmed up it would behave normally. But I did not experience anything extra ordinary over normal mineral oil in using hdeo. In fact I was very happy with performance using gulf pride 20w40 and not at all happy with hdeo. Not only me other friend of mine was done with hdeo in just 500kms run and changed over to bike specific oil. May be its just two of us or the hdeo is simply not going well with fiero engine

                    I think on old clutch, HDEOs may not help much. There is a little friction reduction in HDEOs which help in smoothening the ride. But, as the oil is thicker than 4T oils, the friction modification does not translate to clutch slippage. Experimentation with oils has no end, if some works its a bonus.

                      My clutch is just 5k kms old and also I am riding taller gearing than stock. May be I was expecting too much which was a.mistake.

                        Regarding Running-in of new engine, I've read few articles which suggests to get the Engine Oil changed from Synthetic to Mineral during the run-in period. And post 200kms to replace the Oil and the Oil filter. Is it really necessary to drain the factory default Synthetic Oil to Mineral Oil on a new Bike? I also read somewhere that new Bikes come with special Synthetic Oil with certain mixtures to ensure the engine breaks-in well. So which if it is true?
                        Specifically talking about the new MOJO, it has the first service scheduled after 1000kms/1month. So, is it necessary to change the Oil before that interval for proper break-in of the new engine?

                            Best mineral oil I have used till date on fiero. Not yet tried on 180 set up so can't comment on it

                              apache engine is similar to fiero ....actually I'am using gulf pride 20w40 on my apache from last 500kms .. fully satisfied with its performance, even motul didn't make me so much happy

                                Yeah true rtr is based on fiero engine. For 180 try if you can get gulf 20w50 which will feel much better in my opinion
