Common?! Well, it never happened with previous oil changes... but then I'v used only Idemitsu till now. But even then, there never was any change when comparing between the old oil and fresh new oil!
Question is how can oil cause a drop of 200 RPMs!

isnt 300v 15w50?Originally posted by razorBlades View Posthas anyone tried Motul 300v 5w40?
I was using castrol power1 racing and just switched to Motul.. The acceleration has come down a bit now.. any reasons? is there any way it is because of the oil?
its fully synthetic so run in for sometime. maybe 20-30kms. then let us know.BIKER ...the thrill and sense of self-fulfilment is obtained from living a little dangerously!

Better heat management...very well observed for synths.Originally posted by Raccoon View PostCommon?! Well, it never happened with previous oil changes... but then I'v used only Idemitsu till now. But even then, there never was any change when comparing between the old oil and fresh new oil!

The normal drain quantity from my bike is 800-840ml. but this time we left the oil to drain for a good 30mins. i even crancked the engine for a sec and swtiched it off.......final drain quantity was ~900ml!Originally posted by HydBiker View Postyes, ur RTR was screaming with this oil. BTW, what was the drained qty? any more or less? just wanted to check if ur loose tappets are letting combustion gases into the engine!
Wats confusing is the oil level went down a bit after we came bck from HUMPY
......but it remained the same till i drained it......andnow i got 900ml
Yes anna....my baby was really screaming with the fresh oil.....was controllin myself from ripping it (been 6k since i serviced it) but finally it mmade me rip like hell......rpm visited 11.5k in almost all gears execpt for the 5th
......RTR surely gets out the devil inside me

^^^That's according to Motul's website I guess. But the entire range is not available to buy. To my knowledge the cans in the market are
Mineral - 3000 4T 20w40
Semi Synth - 5100 4T 15W50
Fully Synth - 300V FL 15W50 & xW40
So the Oil did not loose Quantity. But the quality of the ride did change by the time you drained the oil!Originally posted by onlinesatish View PostThe normal drain quantity from my bike is 800-840ml. but this time we left the oil to drain for a good 30mins. i even crancked the engine for a sec and swtiched it off.......final drain quantity was ~900ml!

And it gave you comparatively easier revvs and lesser vibrations. Good.

@razorBlades
Is it the acceleration that came down or did your bike become smoother with the Motul? Motul 300V FL is anyday better than the Castrol P1 Racing.
Also, which oil was thicker? Castrol or Motul (this is just a curious question)

Pardon my ignorance, but what is Xw40? Does it mean any range from 0-max? Can it be used for a bike with say 20w40 rating as well?Originally posted by HydBiker View Post^^^That's according to Motul's website I guess. But the entire range is not available to buy. yeah.. i rode for more than 300 kms that day.. its the same problem..Originally posted by shadez View Postisnt 300v 15w50?

I have used 15w50 before.. but this is 5w40.. maybe because of the change in viscosity i am getting all these trouble?
the acceleration a bit and the top end rush has come down a lot.. i mean from 100 to 120 rush!Originally posted by HydBiker View Post@razorBlades

castrol P1 racing was thinner than motul.. with castrol the engine was free revving..
will the change in grade of the oil affect the engine temperature while running? will the engine get heated up faster?Last edited by razorBlades; 03-13-2009, 11:58 AM.A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.
Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

Well, I forgot whether it was 5W40 or 10W40 and hence the variable xOriginally posted by R15Rocks View PostPardon my ignorance, but what is Xw40? Does it mean any range from 0-max? Can it be used for a bike with say 20w40 rating as well?
The Motuls are generally thicker than other oils and have better heat management capabilities too. Keeping the engine cooler is a good thing. If you've switched from a W50 oil to W40 oil you might notice the engine heat to be more.Originally posted by razorBlades View Postthe acceleration a bit and the top end rush has come down a lot.. i mean from 100 to 120 rush!

May be your acceleration and top end rush are lower but I cannot explain that. One thing I still feel is - when I ride an RTR it is very thrilling because of the feedback (vibes
) it gives... Motul might have smoothened them to an extent and may be that's the reason you feel it is not accelerating as well...
Well, I'm not concluding anything but both are a possibility!

as in, when compared to other full synthetic oils? the 300v 15w50 is greenish in color and thinner than any of those mineral ones.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostThe Motuls are generally thicker than other oils and have better heat management capabilities too.
fully synthetic ones are great but indian bikes dont have the tact and finish as of those imports. so these tend to seep out in interns compared to minerals which kindof works to seal off. such as the 'motul leaking head'.
yup.... the feedback is amazing with this oil.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostMay be your acceleration and top end rush are lower but I cannot explain that. One thing I still feel is - when I ride an RTR it is very thrilling because of the feedback (vibes

i havent experimented with RTR so i cant comment on it. but in pulsar 180, when exposed to sun, the extreme heat cuts off engine. it takes a good 2 mins for the bike to start back again. and after a good run of high revs in 30 mins, the heat is noticably more compared to minerals.
also, isnt it possible that the full synths, since thinner, seep out more and cannot lube the interns good in high temps? if so, then the high end and mileage 'would' reduce. right? wrt air cooled indian bikes ie.
my 2 pncs...
some doubts:
1. what type is castrol P1?
2. in low temps, as in 0 degree weather, how much should VI be? i mean, the X in XwY.BIKER ...the thrill and sense of self-fulfilment is obtained from living a little dangerously!

^^It is not the thin viscosity of the 300V that makes it seep out of the Pulsar's head.
The problem is more to do with its chemical composition. 300V is double ester based oil and this eats thru the gaskets, etc that cause the Pulsar head leak!
300V earlier was a single ester based oil, it was called "Competition" then and not "Factory Line" like it is now.
The 5100T Motul Semi-Synth is a single ester based oil and that does not cause any kind of leaks on the Pulsars!
At 0 deg temp. the for xWy oil. AFAIK x=0!Last edited by Praful; 03-13-2009, 03:25 PM._________________________
