Yamaha has just launched Yamalube semi-synth. I have tried it on my bike. I would say, hang on for a while, they're gonna launch full-synth Yamalube too. It may cost more, but you won't have any issues in case they start cribbing about warranty!Originally posted by saudjawed View Posthi i want to use fully synthic oil for my R15, which is done 6.5k so can you all recommend me a good fully synthic oil. i heard about castrol power1 racing other then that.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Hey guys,
I was just going through a test article a few days about some tests carried out in Georgia (there is some famous testing lab there, sorry forgot the name).
On this thread, after seeing the oil name "Yamalube", I remembered that it was mentioned in that document, that Yamalube has one of the lowest concentrations of zinc & phosphorus.
These both are the last measures of safety for the engine & zinc is what will protect the engine when there is actual metal to metal contact.
Just wanted to post this as a word of caution. Will try to look out for that article & post it here.
Happy & safe riding,
Prakhar

Oil for CBZ-X
Hi Guys,
I have a CBZX which has done 12,000+ kms. I plan to switch to Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W30 (as recommended by Racoon).
I have a few queries in this regard:
1. From what I can make out, Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W30 is a semi synthetic oil. What care do I need to take while swiching from mineral oil to this oil?
2. Will there be an issue if traces of mineral oil remain, and get mixed with this oil?
3. I guess I'll hv to tell the service guys at HH not to even touch the oil tank while servicing. I would need to top up the oil myself as required. Correct?
4. I live in Chennai. Will the oil will suit my requirements with the famed Chennai summer approaching fast?
please help me in clearing my doubts.

While switching from mineral to semi-synth/full-synth, please ensure that as much as possible of the old engine oil is drained out. You will need to warm up the engine before draining out the oil, as sometimes the oil droplets sticking to the sides do not come out when cold. The remaining traces getting mixed even after this will not be an issue AFAIK.Originally posted by manny View PostHi Guys,

Also do not forget to get the oil filter changed.
Please check with HH guys, as they were skeptical about my friend switching to some other oil over HH oil, for warranty purposes. In case they do permit it, you need to carry your own cans for filling as well as topup, henceforth.
Semi&full-synths' heat management capabilities are far better than minerals. You will understand the difference once you start using it!

Most of your questions have been answered above. Just do whatever to ensure that they dont even top up your oil at the service.... they may do it as a routine.Originally posted by manny View PostHi Guys,

Gulf Pride seems better on the heat front... I find the engine running a bit cooler since I switched to it.
Btw, its best to just change the oil yourself. That way you can do the max to keep contaminants out, and do everthing else the right way. Hardly takes 10 - 15 mins.

Dont use 5100T its 15W50 rated oil, not suited for your bike.Originally posted by Deepakumarwut is the Drain time of Motul 300v FL,5100 4T?? plz help.Which one is best for ZMA-R??
If you are looking for synthetic go for Motul 300V 5W40,
second choice would be Castrol power1 racing 10W40.
These synthetics should last 7000+ KMS depending on how you ride.

Check the manual for the oil rating. Yamaha has launched semi-synth Yamalube&they're supposedly launching full synth too, soon. If your bike is still under warranty&you don't wanna take any risks, you might check if you can use that oil for your Glady as well.Originally posted by prashanth lobo View PostHey Guys,
Which oil would you all recommend for my gladiator ss?? Should i go for fully synthetic or semi synthetic??Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Manual says always stick to good quality 10w-30 and then it also mentions.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostCheck the manual...I'd say stick to the company recommendation for the time being as your bike is very new!
SAE Engine Oil Viscosity
Suzuki recommends the use of SAE10w-30 engine oil. If 10w-30 engine oil is not avilable, select an alternative according to the following chart/
A temperature chart with all the possbile oils for various temperatures.
So my question is, in Bangalore's super stop and go superheat traffic is 10w-30 okay? with temperatures already hovering around 39 deg c should I get 10w-40? is this the right approach?
Yes sir, there is a viscosity chart for amb temp given butttttt they recommened 10w-30 and others if 10w-30 is not avilable!! weird.Originally posted by Raccoon View PostDude, always stick to what the manual recommends. You can consider changing the viscosity only if the manual gives a viscosity chart for ambient temp. or something.
Are you sure the Suzuki Idemitsu oil is fully synthetic?? I really doubt that. Assuming its mineral, it would be good to stick to it for now. Later you can try something like Gulf Pride 10W30 which likely better and costs around Rs. 200... so the cost would be almost same as the Suzuki oil, I guess.
What is the drain period mentioned on the Suzuki Idemitsu oil, btw?
Suzuki Idemitus is synthetic was told to me by the service guy, nothings written on the bottle. seems he doesnt know better, need to ask the incharge.
I will stick to it, no problem, but Iam getting Motul 10w-30 mineral at a slightly higher price so the dilemma.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostDoc, forget everything else & pls stick to that Suzuki Idemitsu 10W30 oil. It is not Synthetic. It is mineral oil and is a good one (we guess so as we've seen oils from the same manufacturer with same grade and rating working very good)
Another question should I upgrade the spark plugs to NGk iridiums?
edit: also the access 125 uses a dry clutch.Last edited by TheDoctor; 03-27-2009, 02:04 PM.

^^^It seems they have a clear preference for 10W30, so prolly you should use this grade only. A good 10W30 will also give you better fuel economy and maybe even pick-up. I'd suggest you try Gulf Pride... but after say 3 or 4 k km, to be on the safer side.
Don't even bother asking them. If nothing is mentioned on the bottle, its dyno oil.Suzuki Idemitus is synthetic was told to me by the service guy, nothings written on the bottle. seems he doesnt know better, need to ask the incharge.
You will most likely see no improvement with Iridium... esp. on a new bike. See spark plug thread for more.Another question should I upgrade the spark plugs to NGk iridiums?
Btw, it would be great if you could scan and post the engine oil page in your manual... esp. where they give the chart.
