don't worry... this oil is being used in Avengers by some people and for moderately extreme riding. It is performing very well. In fact, better than with the SC's 20W50 mineral oil.

It is not just the grade you have to look at. Synthetic oils have better heat management (not a technical term but I prefer to use that word to indicate the values like Viscosity Index, Kinematic Viscosity and Flash Point) than mineral oils. If you are still uncertain, keep checking for the oil level and colour every 1000 KMs to get a vague idea about when to change.

I have tried out the Petronas full synth 10w40 on my Fiero F2. Filled in 2.5K kms.back. On checking at around 2k kms.there was NO discoloration, usually mineral would have gone sooty black by now. I am gonna check it again at the next service, including level.
My question is: Can I top it up with regular mineral oil if needed?

Yes, happily. But the oil looses its property quickly after that. So, by the time you need a topup, it would mean the oil is already deforming and the next time you gotta change the oil whether you top it up with same oil or with some mineral oil.

My Victor was running on this oil. At 5K KMs it was good. I had to change clutch plated and drained oil into a jug and poured it in after the change. about 80-100 ml oil was less and I topped it up with 100ml of same oil. But after the change, not sure what it is, my oil went very bad in 1300 KMs and I had to change it.

Now, Was it due to new clutch plates (can it be?) or
was it because of some contamination when taken out and poured back!!!
or is it just that the deformation just accelerated once it started.

I have just finished with my free services of karizma at hero honda service centre and till date i have used the oil provide by hero honda? Should i change it next time for better performance? if yes then which one should i go for?

P.S- Presently i am not having any problem in my bike but i need to change oil to perform it in a better way.

If you have no issues please continue with the HH oil, they are not only good but also cheapest. Most people reporting performance of 'costly' oils are short term only, more over these oils are one/two years old. We really can't say costly oils are better for engine. I have heard least no. of complaints w.r.t HH oils.
Top speed is just indicative and a spec., the bike cannot be ridden in top speed endlessly. Maintain top end of 80% of top speed which is totally harmless and engine would last longer. No need of costly experimentations.

Don't confuse me... I already have some other things to look into for that bike. I guess I will call you when I drain the oil.

20 W 40 is recommended for 135. For 100 no grade is mentioned.This one is 15 W 50, besides being 4T

I am also eagerly waiting for reply to this post. Quite shamefully, I have to admit I never really bothered what the ASC fills when it comes to gearbox oil

I prefer thicker oil. I find it makes the gears smoother when riding for long.

Obviously I use 2T for engine.

In Mumbai its better to use a 50 grade oil,thanks to the heavy traffic.Am planning to use 300v 15w 50 for my Unicorn.

i have been using this on my Avenger is a XW50 mineral oil made in india by motul(not imported from france). been using for the past 1300 kms (bike has done only 3k Kms ),was using castrol Activ Extra which was crap & loses out ever 500 kms .package says its meant for twin spark engine,was actually recomended by a bullet mechanic ,they use the same oil @ bullet workshops . when i spoke to bangalore Motul Disti he said this oil has been introduced to compete in the mineral oil segment for the XW50 engine like the bullets,pulsars & avengers

this motul has been good,gear shifts are neat,engine vibrations/Noise is less. its calms down my bajaj engine . i do notice a hard gear shift in the morning start,once i drive a km or two,engine is butter smooth

so far been a value for a money as a mineral oil ,i plan to stick to this mineral (with one more refill) till i reach 6k Kms & then switch over to semi synthetic

Encouraging to hear that. But it is often said that using synthetic oil for gearbox in two strokes causes clutch slippage. Read it on the net. Dont remember which website.

He loves it. I have tried Castrol full synthetic earlier in 5W-40 and the clutch didnt slip.

They are used in the super refined Honda engines and hence no complaints. Yes, the oil is good. But the Honda engines won't cry even if u use the worst crap oil available.

Yes, the Motul 3000V is thicker than other similar grade oils. While the Engine runs very smooth, unless the engine is completely hot the gear shift is hard. But for many engines we'd be happier to run them smooth and without overheating than bother about slightly harder gear shift!

a xW50 oil for Uni would be a bit too much. I suggest you use a better xW40 oil.

Clutch slippage would be caused if you use modern car synthetic oils in bikes. Nothing would go wrong with an oil made for bikes.
