Why did you go with that grade. Isn't that for cold weather?

10W40 is the grade mentioned in the manual. 5W40 is best as per CBR Forums. I don't think it is necessarily for cold weather.

        • Hey guys, I am planning to get the Petronas Sprinta 4T 5000 full synthetic oil for my R15. When i went to the dealer this morning, the can he should me had April 08 as its manufacturing date. So I wanted to know if I should go ahead and purchase the can despite the fact that it more than an year old. Will this affect have any effect on the quality and durability of the oil?

          Thanks.

If oil is stored correctly (Sealed container, dry, dark place, room temp., etc), then 4 years is generally the accepted shelf life. Consider the manufacturing date only... not the import date. Personally, I'm not comfy about buying a can that old... about a year or two at the max is ok. The storage conditions are v important. For eg. I'v seen Shell bunks here store all their oil cans on shelfs out in the open. They have obviously done that to improve visibility of their products, but most of the cans are open to sunlight, heat, rain, etc. Not a good idea to buy such stuff.

New Castrol fully synthetic oil?? I am not aware of any new synthetic oil from castrol except for 'Power 1 Racing' which is not new. It comes in 10w40 and can be used in ZMA. If there is a new one apart from that. I too would like to hear about it.
