Honda engines run better on honda engine oils....my frnd got his Xtreme filled with power1 and the engine lost its charm and refinement
the very next week he drained it got normal oil filled and it was back to normal state....
of course, power1 is not a recommended grade for Xtreme.....

available semi synthetic oils for w40 are
      valvoline
veedol super swift (iam not completely sure its semi synthetic)
these are best semi synthetic oils available for p150
Any comments on which is better oil? This valvoline semi synth or Petronas 2000 4t 20w40 mineral. I have Discover 135. In the first oil change, service centre guys put valvoline semi synth 20w40 from their barrel. In the second change, I went for Petronas 2000. Was this a good decision?? Price of both is same.

The oil that I am using, Petronas 2000 4T, is indeed 20W40. Confirmed this with people at Petronas customer care. The imported 2000 4T is 20W50, made in India one is 20W40.

            • @Thunder, I do find that most of the times after an oil change my bike needs about 100KMs to run smoother. But with your case it is a little funny.

Valvoline is marketing in the lines of Castrol. It is not Semi Synth and I personally have seen a bunch of people complaining heating problems (not a lot but more heat comparatively) with their oils - though the engines run smooth.

Petronas Sprinta 2000 4T 20W40 is a new oil and haven't heard from anyone about how good or bad it is. Sinc eyou said it is made in India and not imported from Malaysia like the others, I would wait to hear some reviews. But then, when you get the Sprinta 5000 4T 10W40 (fully synthetic) for Rs 400 or even less, why on the earth would you use anything else? This oil is doing very good duty for my R15, Victor, Esteem, RTR and more fellow member's bikes since over an year.

Gulf is better than the Honda Oil, HH oil and even the Castrols. But there's nothing like Castrol's couldn't cope up with Honda Engines. It is like saying I cannot digest Maasi's pulkha's - only Mom's would do. May be something else was wrong or may be the oil bought was not genuine.

My bike has done only 1800 kms till date. I have read in the forums that synthetic oil should be used after around 6000 kms. Please correct me if this is wrong. Hence continuing with mineral oil. Also, the oil feels good in the bike. Gearshifts are definitely better but then the new oil has done only around 150 kms.

are sure valvoline are also in lines market engineering rather than liquid engineering

                        • Motul 3000T 4T 15W50 Review

Tried the new product from Motul, my trusted oil company.
Label says specially designed for twin spark engines, Bajaj and Thunderbird mentioned on the rear side.

Was using teh SVC oil, gears all jammed up, on the Head mechanic advice even added Bhardhal Oil additive , mere WASTE of 110 bucks

then shifted back to Motul 15W50 costing 230 a litre and believe me in 300 meters my gears felt a lot smoother, and now after 300+ kms they have become even more smoother as compared to other 220 DTSI's i rode so far.
Engine is free revving, and a lot smoother now...

will surely recommend it for all 220 owners,

will report after how many kms the oil goes bad

                          • Am using Motul 300 v 15w50 full synthetic on my 220, nd found it's the best, Am using it from 1500km no engine problem or clutchplate problem is there, till now 22000 km has been done nd I think it will run fine another 10k or more I don need any clutchplate change. That too on redlining rpm driving style.

Motul 5100 should be better but you have only 15W50 in that. Gulf is just yummy for its cost (almost half the cost of 5100) and you get that in 10W30 and 20W40.

engines get screwed up for various other reasons but definitely not for using a synthetic oil in the same grade as recommended.

You may wait for the 3K KMs service and then start using the fully synth.

Most of them are. But then, the technical aspect aside, they do deliver some better goods for that special/extra process. And I believe that is what we need. Also, I am keeping myself away from Valvolines as there is so much more better stuff available.

Motul's are always good products and especially for Pulsars they rock. But the "specially formulated for twin spark" thing should be another gimmickry.
