Also my bike has completed total 26500 KMS.
Right from the beginning i have been using Castrol Active or Castrol Power 1.
After every 2000 Kms i change the oil.
I haven't used Castrol Active or Castrol Power 1. If you are happy with this one continue to use it. But people here say Castrol is not that good comparing with other brands.
Go back few pages and read about it. You will get clear idea.

+1 on that... have used castrol active and power 1 and motul too... i find motul much better than castrol... but still do not know why people stick to castrol... With castrol the drain interval is odd 2-2.5k kms... but with motul i find it more than 3k.. I would call motul (With liquid engineering) and not castrol.

              • Valvoline premium

It has been one week say 200 kms since i changed the engine oil to valvoline premium 20W50. So far the gear shifts are very smooth , up shifts no more makes a thud sound, Instead it makes a decent click just like HH bikes.

The exhaust note became bassy and its very silent. This is where the oil impressed me very much.

Though the RPM does not climb up as before (I had poured 20W50 oil against recommended 20W40 ) the engine runs cooler. Completely satisfied with valvoline.

ok, But why not 15w50. I have learned that in hot whether conditions (currently in Pune) xxW50 oil is better than xxW40

What your bike's manufacturer recommended grade? Yes, heavier oil is better in hot climate, however its not a good practice to overdo it. If its xW30, then you can safely go one step up to xW40. If its xW40, then xW50 is okay. But going up two steps is stretching it like jumping from 30 to 50. I too use xW40, though my bike is recommended to run on xW30. Much better in hot Mumbai whether.

My bike's recommended is 20W40. So if i use 15W50, then i would be going one step up( 40 - 50) & half a step down (20 - 15).I think this should be safe, am i right?

                        No...

                        don't play with the specifications..

Now, when 20W40 is recommended, u can go for 10W40, 15W40 or xxW40.

You cannot change the later number. Previous numbers can be changed (usually used for cold /lower temp areas.).

Go for the Motul 15w50. Amazing happens! Its priced at 750-800 bucks and will easily come for 5000 kms.

Now HH oil is available outside also. The recommended is 10W30. ..the same for ZMA-R. But I remember that the older ZMA had 20W40.So I guess 20W40 can also be used safely....XX W 40 will give better engine cooling and lube than XX W 30...but the engine will be slightly sluggish to Rev.,due to the heavier oil.
It is better to choose an oil range which is smaller like 20W40 than a 10W40 because more esters are added for the range, and they deteriorate over time ,and heat,...more than the closer range ones. Moreover ours is a tropical climate and base temp., never drops to freezing -10 or so(except North most areas) and so a closer range can be used.Look out for JASO MA2 certification......just my thought.
