@All, what are your thoughts on the below helmet? .. What I fear is that the helmet will be pulled back cause of that flap/shield thing (on the top of the helmet) while riding on higher speeds specially on highways

Please let me know your thoughts and reviews

I guess the top cover can be removed when not needed. And if the helmet gives you a tight fit you wont have to worry much about it being pulled off your face. They have given much space for the air to flow through the top cover and the joints.

Yes guess you are correct.. Enough space/channel is provided for air to flow through...

Anyone using this helmet please post your review.. Thanks in advance..

This was used by Sathyen poojary and another guy who did the Leh circuit with the NS and I guess they had good reviews about these. Try to contact them, send a PM , I'm sure they will help.

BTW, if you don't mind sharin' the price for the boots........
11,500 rs from a mumbai based dealer. supposedly they ate water proof as well according to him. A great by I'd say for riding boots. I have an Alpinestar jacket as well and can vouch for their amazing build quality and superior fit and finish and durability.

Geneboy, these are dual sport helmets. And the question you've asked pretty much reflects the dilemma my uncle had. Now his helmet was used way beyond its life and I remember when going in this bike, the rain/sun shield literally went up due to the wind, and it was due to one side screw lost and another one barely to the tightness. But you can be rest assured for normal days these should work just fine and you won't feel so much of a *drag* when you pull your head up.

Remember these aren't fully covered to induce a drag. That is why these are called dual-sport helmets as opposed to *dirt helmets*.

This is not a review as such, but what I experienced years back.

                Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I use the very same helmet while touring - have done upwards of 160kmph with little or no drag. The Dual Sport peak is specifically designed for airflow, unlike MX helmets, so they don't lift up. However at high speed, turning your head does have a wind drag effect but not un-manageable. I like it specially on back roads, twistys and ghats, cause the wide eye port allows easy viewing of the sides and aids your peripheral vision.

Did your uncle use a dual sport? SOL only introduced it last year.

Yep. I knew this question would pop up. He was using this in his Yezdi, when he worked as field officer in Megamalai. The brand name was ZEPPELIN, never ever heard of it, it was just a cheap dirt helmet with a mix of dirt/MX helmet with the signature flap on top, with black cracked visor. And since Eugene's point was about that protector flipping back, I used it as a case in point.

It was a black colored one with golden stripes around it's crown, several years back. Not SOL

                          One word- Crap.
Wobbles very much if ridden above 60 or facing crosswinds.Build quality is pathetic.Better go for gliders or sol dual sports. And if you want offroad helmet for offroading, get ls2 or sol offroad helmets.

Plastic buckets. PERIOD. Get a proper full face helmet, but not for off-road buckets, if you intend to ride on tarmac, that is.

First off, you need to understand what are dualsport as opposed to street spec helmets. And if you go back quite a few pages, I've explained what are the advantages of a MX helmet/ street helmet. This helmet is just a fusion of those.

                                Quick recap.

Ventilation: Most full face helmets, don't offer the ventilation that a motocross helmet provides. Now there is a catch here. Dualsport helmets if you see, most of them are used in bikes which have upright riding position (proper touring bikes as opposed to a crouched position sports bike) which means a lot how the helmet performs. You wouldn't wanna use a dual sport helmet croucing at 100+ speeds. Some use, some don't. But if you see abroad, and their usage of helmets that should give you an idea of how they use different helmets for different types. Full face street, motocross MX helmet. Dual sport touring/enduro.

Next up is vision. The added advantage of these dual sport helmets are first and primarily the vision. With huge goggles all the way, they provide good periphery vision as opposed to full face helmets. Now it's not to undermine full face helmets, but with a huge frontal visor the vision advantage it offers is commendable.

Next up those rain/sun protectors. These provide decent sun shade/rain protection, which again is an added plus when comes to long distance touring and enduro type riding.

But all in, it's a mix of both MX/Street for the right comfort and flexibility with the *adequate* protection of a full face helmet.

                                Cheers!
