First day of the month and out I went to try my hand again on getting a helmet. The MT variant of my choice was still not available. There is a new LS2 helmet showroom opened up at JC road. Checked it out and they have helmets all in size L and with price ranging about 3500/-. Tried one but it gave me the impression that these are probably not the genuine LS2. Later at Moto101, tried out the SOL helmet in matte black and the unicorn graphic version, those that had safety blinkers at the rear side and five air vents above the forehead. It looks sci-fi good, fit really well and was very comfy but costed approx. Rs.6000/-

After an unsuccessful attempt at buying a helmet of my choice last month, now picked out this for myself instead.
A matte black KRANOS in size M from the makers of the MT range of helmets.

It's priced at Rs.3350/-, so its in the price range that falls between the KYT and the MT series of helmets. And this came with its very own bag/cover.
There are many other attractive color variants in the Kranos range to choose, but personally prefer the subtle variant to the bright colors or ones with heavy graphics.

As i exited the shop. put on the new helmet, with my old helmet hung over the right RVM of my bike (didn't have an alternative), rode back home to check how it held.
So here is my little review on this one.

Finish - The matte black outer finish is fine. Shell quality seems to be strong enough. No complaints there.
Inside - Inner padding and fit is snug, but the fabric is not very smooth to my liking. Not complaining. A balaclava should fix this minor bug.
Locking - Mechanism is the D-ring fasteners with an additional small plastic press button at the very end of the strap.
Air vents - One up front at the mouth piece, two at the either sides above the forehead area, all three can be slide shut/open. Two visibly clear mesh vents at the rear.
Visor - There was no fogging up of the visor due to breathing out. Need to test this further though. Can be removed easily by sliding a clip on either sides to pull it out clear. Additional/spare visor costs Rs.750/- and can be purchased as and when required.
Others - Inner padding at the front could be much better. Chin liner is not present. Slight gap between the visor and shell. Not much noise and wind buzzing noise inside, however still need to check the same at speed higher than 80kmph. At the back, it reads ECE R22.05. Certified DOT FMVSS No 218. Size M - 1350g - 1450g.

In short, its a fine helmet for the price and should hold up well. For those looking at KYT or similar, this new variant from MT would be worth checking out.
Will post further info after having used it on longer duration rides in different climatic conditions. Although, am more curious to know how it fares in the rains.

You could have gotten the white or any other light colored versions. just saying.

Matte black isnt the safest helmet material to choose.

Also share about wind noise ? Ride a bit using this and share your thoughts.

Ride safe and have fun.

Issues with the Kronos, that I have noticed
- The padding is not uniform, there was a very apparent difference in the size of the padding of the cheek, initially we thought it was only with the one we were testing but in further testing realised that other helmets had similar issues.
- the air vents work brilliantly but I would not suggest keeping them open at high speed, there is a very audible whistle that is generated from the chin vent, maybe a chin curtain would cut down the turbulence
- the breath guard is way too large, it should have been flatter like, it you are wearing one that fits you exactly you will notice the guard comes into your line of sight, Took some getting used to.
- The visor is a pain to take off, or maybe we were just doing it wrong.
- the button to fasten the strap to prevent it from flapping around is way too high and requires for one to push between the cheekpad to clip on... Not easy

But I guess you get what you pay for.

Absolutely agree with you.
In fact, did choose a simple black and white designed one, but the shop didn't have a M size of the same. Couldn't wait any further and so this.
Besides, a clear black helmet works well as a canvas for me to try out designing a custom design with some reflective stickering.
Will post a picture later on when am done with it. Besides that, the white 'knanos' logo both in the front and back would be visible at night.

Agree on this one too. It's not easy to click the button in place that too with gloves on. Might need some getting used to, I suppose.

are you talking about the colour matt black? are you referring to visibility?

if so, there's nothing wrong with the colour.

unless his bike and jacket are matt black too and have no reflective surfaces. that would be a safety issue.

i've been riding an ALL matt black bike with a VR46 yellow helmet for the last 6 years. no problems.

Have been riding all black for over 15 years with no problems at all. I make sure the brakes, bike's head/tail lights and indicators are working perfectly fine.
Can hardly remember when I last used the horn too. Hate the damn thing and don't quite like anyone using one too often either.
Evidently what I have noticed on the road is that either the rider/driver believes the sound of the horn is music to his/her ears or has the simple lack of patience.

hello all,

i have been planning to buy a helmet for sometime now since my old steelbird SB-1 has become quite loose and it wobbles on my head when i hit speeds above 70. but, somehow i am worried with the imported ones that turn out to be fake. hence, i have decided on buying a Studds Shifter. however, if anyone could guide me on where i can buy genuine imported helmets in Mumbai, i would be obliged. i am looking for a helmet with a budget of 3.5k, give or take 1k.

Your Kranos Matte black looks good.anyway what's the actual measurement of size M?,I'm asking this cos there seems to be differences in same size of different brands. My head size is 55.3 cm.does it cause any irritance while riding by the ununiform padding.?If u don't mind, could u please pm ur number.I am without a helmet and eager to purchase a MT or studds scorpion.thanks

suryamitra...If you have that much of budget, then you can easily get KYT for 2900/- odd from planet dsg at juhu circle link road. MT 4150/- & SPG MT Kranos 3350/- from Moto 101 Bandra link road.

Dont go for LS2 most of them are fake.
A H Helmets are distributors of genuine LS2, but there are too many copies.

I just bought SPG MT Kranos from moto 101.
