It is actually my friend and I who created this survey form! We two are college going people and currently live in Tamil Nadu, India.

Looking at all the pros and positives for the MT range, what is the real motivation to go for a SOL Helmet?
I am upgrading my bike to either a R3 or RR310 in a couple of months, and want a helmet upgrade too.

I have looked at the MT range but am more impressed by the SOL S2 range, design and glamour arent things I care about, only pure play protection.

The wind noise, I hear, is a major drawback in the Sol series, but is it really a deal breaker?
Can someone please help me with a pick then?

          Budget around 7k.

          Cheers!

I have got SOL-68S and been using it for last 2.5 years now.
Coming to noise issue, it's only felt when there is heavy cross wind or you are doing above speed of 100-120 kmph depending on situation. Up till the speed of 80 kmph, you won't hear much noise which I think is decent enough.

But there is nothing world changing bad in SOL which might change your decision. It's a good heavy helmet ( you will get adjusted to weight, don't worry) with pretty good cushions, double D-ring, wide view visor. Only down point I feel about SOL missing is anti-fog which can be seen in MT, SMK, etc.

As you are planning to get a good 300+cc bike take your time and decide to go for only the best, don't adjust in that. With budget of 7K you have a limited choice and I request please try and buy. Don't go over looks or any other features (tinted visor, addn. Sun shield, etc) they are secondary. Primary focus should be on shell dynamics and strength and ability to absorb impact. Other plastic gimmicks are also important, but as I said secondarily.

Hope you will find some relevant info.

Yes absolutely, like I said, I am sold on Sol, but MT and SMK etc. seem to be the ones in vogue, so trying to understand why?
Also when you say that I have a limited choice with a budget of 7k, what do you suggest? I go up to 10k? If so what are the new choices that warrant this move .

Sol is a bit heavy but it's a solid helmet overall, good build quality and very strong, can't comment on MT and smk, hjc is worth a mention, slightly on the higher side in terms of pricing but lighter in weight.

Try vega they have some light weight helmet, i got vega budds full face for my wife it is 540mm in size and is the perfect fit for her, all other helmets were either too big and lose or very heavy. I am usimg smk for myself.
Mt blade is a very good helmet u can buy it eyes closed but make sure the fit is right and in winters do buy pinlock sheet it is really helpful in fog.
You can also try smk for your wife as their full face helmets size starts from xs.

Guys can anyone suggest where I can try helmets of brands like HJC, AGV, Bell, Shoei in Chennai?
I am looking for something which is rated both by Sharp 5 star and Snell. Suggestions welcome. Budget about 15k
I have MT Blade now and I need to upgrade. I am looking for something rated well for quietness.

AGV helmets should be available at the Chennai Dainese store.

AGV K3 SV starts at Rs. 17k goes upto 22k with graphics. It is a 4 star SHARP rated helmet but has high wind noise as per reviews. Dealer says it is meant for city.
AGV K5S starts at Rs. 25k all the way upto 36k.

I think I should look for HJC. IS-17 seems to be a good bet. 5 star rated and fairly quiet. Any idea where I can try one in Chennai?
