I had gotten a XXL helmet by mistake.
When I went to the shop today. They told me that the shell of XXL/XL/M all helmets are the same only the inner padding is different. (Is that true?)

So they are going to get a L padding from the godown on monday.

Generally most manufacturers make one shell for two sizes and then adjust it with padding. It is not uncommon to see more than two sizes using the same shell.

Make sure that with the new padding the helmets fits you snug.
