In short one ends up paying a considerable amount over and above the actual helmet's cost, as custom duties. This (the custom duties), at times, can be more than the helmet's purchase price!

Yes mate, I forgot to mention the silver tint inner visor in Cross. That would have been lovely as compared to the dark visor in the Studds.

About the ISI & ECE, if they are selling in India they HAVE TO mark with ISI. That's not an issue.

But then, any idea who is making those helmets? Studds themselves?

      Who makes Cross helmets?
But the thing is they have mention no where that this helmet is ECE certified. & in high end product people dont believe in ISI mark they look for ECE or DOT. Even first model launch by vega was having ECE mark

Yup. Shipping it from the US only makes sense if the closeout price is dirt cheap. My kbc soul reaper was at 52$. shipping+duty+tax came to another 82$
        Pics on this page.

Roughly 5.9k but one thing is there. The kbc helmets in delhi area are sourced through HK/China/Thailand. The US always has the best quality stuff and no concerns about the genuineness of the product:-)

I had said that the shipping etc was another 82$.
              82$ + 52$ = 134$

              I know of two ways
              1. Shop in the US from India @ 20North - Millions of products, Thousands of brands (Paid for a nice helmet, no revert. Finally they said that the helmet was out of stock. Got a full refund)
They have a gift price option - If product less than 10k, then it can be bought as a gift and duty will be waived off.
              2. Borderlinx - This site has a link up with citibank.
They provide you local addresses in US. So, you can buy from any site in US (you will need a paypal account as they won't accept international cards) and get it shipped to that local address provided by borderlinx.
You can consolidate various purchases in borderlinx into one shipment to optimize your shipping cost.
Borderlinx will show you the tax shipping and duty breakup of the shipment. Once you pay up- They ship it through DHL ( I got my helmet in 6 days)

My cost breakup was as follows:

              Cost: 52$ on ebay

              +

              Duty $ 10.90 INR 495.00
              Tax $ 14.99 INR 680.75
              Shipping charges $ 56.50 INR 2565.87
              Hub handling charge $ 0.00 INR 0.00
              Repacking charge $ 0.00 INR 0.00
              Insurance charge $ 0.00 INR 0.00
              ----------------------------------------------------
              Total charges $ 82.39 INR 3741.63

Is there any precaution that is required for the mercury coated visors. Does it wear off in the long run? Its prone to a lot of finger print marks though.

                      • After much thought bought a helmet last Saturday. Got it from Auto Queen, Cochin. Its r rubberized matte finish (with graphics) with chromium coated visor(easy release). fitting and padding is good. The brand is "cross" charged me 3700 for it (don't think its a great price).

Anyway the guy told that within in two months AGV (original not mpa-agv) is gonna bring in helmets on a large scale to India first in major cities and then to tier 2 cities. he was saying the 2009 Rossi exact replica would be sold for around 9000 bucks and overall the price would drop drastically which would be even lesser than international price. He is also expecting Cross to bring in helmets for around 2000 rs but also says that the design and quality of low cost Cross helmets will not be same as of the ones on sale now.

You can try the helmet shoppe at Laxmi Nagar near Metro station
I wear Vega Formula HP. Both Corah and Formula HP are the basic models of Vega with NO removable padding, but they are indeed VFM until and unless you are riding at high speed as they wobble and makes hissing sound at high speeds. But otherwise they are indeed very good for commuting purpose

I am not sure if its exact material replica or replica of paintjob. But i have not seen AGV duplicating the paintjob of rossis helemt on lower the line helemts. and he specifically told this wont be the 2010 version of rossis helemet, will be the 2009 version (currently its available for around 24000 i believe if its at right price. 2010 cost somewhere around 45000+). Also he said that the prices will be special for India and will be lower than US prices.
