Actually, custom duty is something very hard to precisely quote, it depends on a lot of factors. For example, when a supplier orders for a set of jacket or whatever, it comes in bulk and not in individual pieces, so in that way he buys in bulk quantity so to speak, and he pays one-time custom taxes et al for the entire bulk.

Now when it retails, the math is completely different. A 7k jacket is indeed only close to say around 6K max or even less, the additional 1 or 2 or 3k is overhead for us consumers, paying so called "import duties et all what the dealer paid" each and every time we buy a single piece of any product, in which the dealers make pretty hefty profit out of it.

Be it any make A*, Thor, Dainese, Shift, JR, etc etc, whatever gear that maybe out there is overpriced than what they actually are. You shed more money if you go with brands, just for the brand image that it gives and for your personal satisfaction so to speak. Sad but true!!

I don't wanna get into this huge topic, and I don't know if you're aware of this, there was a research what a specified brand has on it's consumers and their attitude towards passing the word around their mates and stuff. So brand isn't a big thing to the inherent company itself, but when they sell, all they want is to make their brands prominent to consumers in any way possible so they attract more customers, which leads to more demand, which leads to "price setting as their wish" mindset.

So, don't worry, no one escapes from this damned loop

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    • ^^ I am actually looking to import the gears to India for sale, therefore i would be bringing them in as bulk and also paying customs at bulk.
The excise board website states that the duty for track suits is 10% and that is the same for any kind of apparels.
Nowhere does it mention duty specific to riding gear, so i guess it would also fall under apparel.

Knowing how the indian system works and the fact that duty would have to be paid in India i think i could get away with paying lower duty than i actually should be if i greased a few hands.

so the total cost would come to price of goods+shipping to exporter in usa+cargo charges+duties.
Are there any other charges too that i would have to pay along with these??

Dude i think u r lookin in wrong forum, u need to check out in some export import forum.

I belive customs should not be above 10%, and if u have it underbilled average goes even down.

or get RJays Octane: RJays Jackets ( Men ) | Facebook

I personally use RJays Octane & m from Goa. It has a rain liner & is pretty effective even in heavy Goan rains. Also its a mesh jacket hence its very comfy in summer. I use it every single day even in scorching heat of summer.

As far as gloves are concerned I prefer & have used gloves from DSG & according to me & my budget as a student they are the BEST

First of all congrats for making a choice to get some riding gear. Second, please avoid SMS lingo as it does not really look or sound good. Third, doing home work and asking specific questions will return better answers than just shooting in the sky.

AFAIK, Alpine star Dry star gloves are the ones that can be used comfortably in both the rain and sun. I am not sure about the cold though. I am using a Cramster Twister and it is very comfortable for the sun and moderate showers. Heavy downpour results in black blotches on the hand. It can pain after a while as the leather sticks to your hand and causes discomfort. But the fit and finish are very good.

Choosing on gears is a real exciting and a tricky subject, because most of the time, there is tons to choose from. I'd suggest, try your searches in the local markets before venturing overseas. As you know, for your specification you get can very good jackets in India, as in overseas.

If you have any of your friends/relatives in overseas that'd be great, as cost wise you'd be saved, else you'd have to pay for duties, taxes, etc if you are planning for an overseas purchase.

Regarding Jackets, check out the DSG's site, they have some good quality jackets and it's as good as it gets as per your need...

DSG Phoenix Jacket Black: Water resistant Internal Lining
DSG Triton Jacket: Blue Water resistant Internal Lining
Rjays Octane: Removable waterproof liner, crazy ventilation, being a mesh jacket, plus adequate downpour protection, can save you from most downpours, being owning one, I can vouch, it's an awesome jacket all day long.

Regarding gloves, try going for DSG Revive for normal use, it has carbon fiber knuckle protection, plus a leather glove which is very good if you take a slide, although we don't want that to happen But not WATERPROOF comes around 1990, pretty okay, if you ask me.

If you need a waterproof glove , then DSG Acqua, though I've never used it, so maybe others who've used it can help you on that, but from the reviews I've seen a pretty good waterproof glove.

P.S. You have enough sources in India, try finding them and you won't have a need spending excess money sourcing from overseas.

Hope this helps. If you need more help, don't hesitate to ask!!

+1 to that. Omid not to toggle on the same topic, but using lingo, slangs et al really doesn't sound quite good, if you know what we mean!! It's just sounds like an immature trait on a forum like this, you'll understand what I mean by that, just a friendly advice.
