If you wear helmets like AGV/Arai/Shoei/Sharp, very little of your neck is exposed. On impact, it is either the sides, crown/front/rear of the head which is prone to contact with the ground. Helmet geometry is designed to protect those areas.

Neck braces made by Alpinestars/BMW/Dainese are made for track/motocross., as far as I know.I have tried one of those on and touring in those will be extremely uncomfortable.

But knowing our roads, there is no guarantee that the impact surface will be flat, especially with potholes and all the loose mortar, and shoddy repair works to these potholes with stones and what not.

Neways, I will look around a bit and see if there are any neck protectors available for tourers.

I shall post details here when the plan becomes more concrete so others can order with me to save on shipping costs.
Check on the rules regarding importing these. I think there is a limit on the value that you can import else will be considered goods for trade and charged accordingly.

I have an A* Goretex boots and love them. very comfortable and waterproof. I picked them up from DSG. For A*, you may want to compare prices with DSG. There wont be much of a difference unless there is some king of a closeout sale on the US sites.

The Goretex I picked from DSG costed me 14640 inclusive of shipping.
The same boots are available on Riders for 240 USD + 25 USD shipping
          265usd x 46.8 = 12402
Add 3.5 credit card conversion fee and brings it close to 13k
Now you also run a risk of being charged custom duties because your total invoice value exceeds 10k. I chose to pay the 1600 extra rather than take the risk of being charged 4-5k as duties.

i am planning to buy a new helmet and my budget is less than rs.2000.i looked for cross helmet which is costing me around rs.1600.i like that helmet, body is of abs made(i dont what that is) and light weight.the helmet inner part is washable and removable.i would like to go for this helmet.however i am confused because i went in 2 to 3 shops and i asked for same helmet and they said that they dont keep it because of low quality.and they suggested to spend more and asked to go for good 1.so please suggest me something about good helmets.....i am totally confused???

I have decided to go in for A* verona air jacket.

                  Only one problem.
I went to DSG pune they have it in medium size.
It seems like slightly big for me but not its not too big thats its unusable.

I think i need to see SMALL size of the jacket just to help me in deciding the size that i need.

DSG will get the jacket only if i order and then i have to buy it even if it doesnt fit me.

                  I need help regarding this.
If anyone in PUNE has the A* verona air jacket in SMALL size.
I would like to see the size and check if it fits me.

and shirt size is 36-38 varies with brand.
DSG pune has a M size and costs about 7.5K it fits me ok but is a bit loose so i just want to maybe try SMALL size and then decide which one to go for.
Will try talking to them about the size thing but im not keeping my hopes up.

Maybe someone has any other model of A* in size S that i can try on.

Please brothers need some help here.
I also feel that the S size will fit you. I'm 5'11" and the medium one (A* Verona) fits me perfectly. Your shirt size also suggests the same.

                      • riding boot dilemma

guyz, i had requested for A* riding boot quote from iccworld.com. Received quote from them but somehow not convinced with that. Sharing with u all, so the experienced one can guide me.
Item: Alpinestar Alpha Touring WP Boot (Size: 8 US) listed as $169.99
                        Quotation:
Item price + local shipping + taxes Rs. 8,491.20
                        Int'l Shipping Rs. 672.00
Duty, Taxes & fees Rs. 2,736.80
                        TOTAL Rs. 11,900.00

I can't digest the idea of shelling extra 4K for an 8K item. Is that expected?
Also, I got call from iccworld today, asking if i want to go ahead with the deal. I inquired why the duty is implied when the item cost is less then 10K. To this the answer was, duty will be implied anyway irrespective of the cost of item. Is that correct?

Another way out is, to order from ridersdiscount. but then, the thought of order being stuck in custom is haunting me (as the order would include knee guard, bike cover and boots).
So guys, please help me & throw some idea on how should I go about this?
                        TIA.

Absolutely right! If its Alpines your thinking to import, Bad Idea. Your not going to save a lot in terms of expense. Better is to get it from DSG

Bro.. Instead of spending that much on Alpines, which doesn't look that great too, go for Rjays Edge boots. I got it a week back and its quite impressive and 100% waterproof and 100% breathable. I paid 10500 INR for this.

                              • Scoyco

                                Hi

I just wanted give a small review about Scoyco JK-24.

Chennai Xbhphian had been to Horsley Hills recently during 14&15th August. Though the riding jacked belonged Ragav (felix.ragav), however, he could not make it to the trip due to personal reasons. Since he got the jacket few days prior to the gang for the trip. He did not hesitate to give me the jacket to get to know about it.

I do not have much idea about riding jackets as myself do not possess one. It was new experience for me to try the real riding jacket for the trip. The jacket was slightly heavier(off course, than my usual windcheater), however, it was well armored at the shoulders, elbow and spine areas.

Let me give out my thoughts in points (for better understanding):

                                1. It is heavy and robust construction (material)
                                2. Good feel while riding.
                                3. Great looks.
                                4. Shoulder armor guard could have been pocketed with a zip than hanging on a velcro strap. The reason is while wearing the jacket, the shoulder armor tends to turn and it is not easy straight wearable jacket.
                                5. This JK-24 which is a complete rain protection will NOT be suitable for dry weather condition or humid territories. Within 10-15min, sweat started to trickle down my palm from inside. That shows that it is a complete rain protection and not good for Chennai conditions (that's where I'm from). Also wanted to let you know that the inner lining was removed, else would have been even worse.
                                6. While onward trip to Horsley Hills, it was complete disappointment as there was hardly any air circulation that actually made me to look drenched when I removed during a Tea break.
                                7. On return journey, had to ride on heavy rains, YES, heavy rains and there was complete protection from the merciless rain gods.

My conclusion is, best suitable for riding during rains and will not recommend this model (JK-24) for people living in humid conditions.

These are my personal opinion and have expressed my experience about the jacket during my Horsley Hills ride.
