US price is $99.95 ~ Rs 5100 at the websites you guys mentioned in the thread
Alpinestars SP-X Gloves - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore
    Alpinestars Sp-x Glove - RidersDiscount.com
Communication Issue. I meant overpriced for the features they offer. Not the price of the same gloves here and in the US

I'd rather prefer a full gauntlet DSG Primal to a half gauntlet A* SP-X. I can pay for the brand. But has to be reasonable

Well SPX is enough for city riding. I own DSG Primal too..but the look the feel and protection level of A* SPX is of really high standards. Like I said earlier..it can be a good addition in your collection of gloves and its just not about Half gauntlet or full gauntlet all the time [ Can you wear full gauntlets gloves in cities like delhi all the time? I dont think so ]. You are saying they are overpriced only 'cze they are 3/4 gauntlet? mmmm

There are X number of gloves for X number of riding conditions. A*SP-X gloves are pretty decent in the half gauntlet category but I wont say the same for DSG Primal..they are not the best in their class [i.e. full gauntlet types ]..thats the reason for the price difference and we know top-notch full gauntlet gloves touch 10+ easily.

If you are getting best in the class, you obviously have to pay more for that. So it dsnt really make any sense comparing two brands of different levels and different class/categories.

If you are getting best in the class, you obviously have to pay more for that. If I start to compare pro biker gloves with A star it wont make any sense..we all know which is better. So it dsnt really make any sense comparing two brands of different levels and different class/categories.
Well put. What I meant is I feel the SM-X are over priced for the features they offer. We have very very good brands like Cortech / Fieldsheer offering same features (if not more) at a lesser price. Its like comparing Arai with Sparx helmets. Both are good in their own sense. If you have the moolah, then you go for it. Otherwise, go for something which makes sense. Like the LS2 in your avatar

It appears that you are located in Chennai. If so, I would advise a mesh jacket. If the choice is between the Maze and the Nero, definitely the Maze for Chennai climate. Waterproofing is a secondary concern and not the primary criteria for selection of a jacket, unless you live in a place with torrential rains. My advice - check with others from Chennai Xbhp for input.

^^^ Strongly support it; mesh is perfect to ride in Winters as well as Summer especially in Chennai. While going on long distance, the inner lining comes in handy to ride in cold. I'm talking experience, not hear say.

And for rains, I'd suggest buying a raincoat one or two pieces rather than combining with the jacket.

While I agree that mesh will dry you out faster, this can be compensated quite easily by proper re-hydration.
Thats the reason I recommend AND personally prefer Textile jackets for long tours. Since I don't own a camel-pack, I am not even able to ride for a good 1/2 hour in the sun without stopping for rehydration. Too many breaks in the journey causes slow progress. And all this, after using the 'more expensive' jacket.

The major difference of opinion here though comes from the fact that Chennai weather is very much different from the northern/western parts and that may give each of us the bias. Chennai is much more humid in comparison to most of the Deccan plateau which has its super-dry summers where sweat can dry out even before it has time to cool the surface.

As for rain protection, there is no better option than using a Raincoat OVER the jacket. A good Duckback raincoat costs 700 bucks. an XXL size fits over both my jackets.

P.S.: I still finish off 3-4 liters of water (And a pack of Glucon D) on a typical 600km winter day ride (apart from water after meals). Even more on a summer day. So its not the rehydration that I am skimping on. Just the convenience of choosing when to stop which is governed by the mind not the body.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Is it really worth for the penny we're investing..
Will it give protection from rains too ?
Three reasons why you should not buy yourself a riding jacket
                1. Your 5k is better spent elsewhere. Lets face it 5000 rupees is a decent amount of money in todays economy.
                2. You dont want the hassle of lugging around a heavy object everywhere you go. Try carrying a jacket, helmet and your shopping at a crowded mall.
                3. You dont want to be laughed at by your colleagues. Seriously, people think youre nuts for buying such expensive riding gear when it couldve been spent on so much else. Like invested in the stock market.

One reason why you should buy a riding jacket
                1. (to borrow an ad line) The streets are filled with idiots.

The 'is it VFM' question can be answered only by how you view the above point. For some people 5k is worth investing in a riding jacket. For some people 10k is well worth investing in a riding jacket.

Some people (admittedly on this forum as well) spend a lot of money on riding gear and then ride around without a helmet or a jacket. Others will not ride without all their riding gear. At the end of the day only you can decide how important safety is to you and what is the amount you are willing to associate with it.

                • well.. I was of same opinion.. and during 1.5 years of extensive riding, didn't buy one..

then thought of going for one.. 5K as they said.. 1 month after that, I was in an accident.. and I know, I am alive because of the jacket..
An animal suddenly jumped into the middle of road from nowhere.. i was on 100+.. the handle got bent by 90 degree inwards and came towards my stomach.. the lower part of the jacket tore and took all the impact and I got a minor scratch.. Full VFM (*selfsarcasm*)..

There are idiots, animals etc etc on road.. If you are riding, jacket is a good investment..

Good that you invested. Right about time you should say.

What abt the torn jacket? Did you get a new one or did you have that repaired (not recommended). My question is directed to only know how the manufacturer reacted to it

Why I asked was whether it gives some life saving protections or not..
Previously I wasn't aware of this fact.. Atleast I learnt it now..
Will surely go for a safe riding soon

                            • Hi Guys, i was looking for riding pants online. I observe there is confusion in Removable Armor.

Some Pants say "Removable soft protectors in the hips and knees"

Some say "removable advanced Level-3 Armor"

Are they completely different or same?
