You don't have any idea how much a power supply can cost Pranay! But, I guess the 6k he mentioned is the price of the graphics card, probably..

If yes, I would recommend going for a Crossfire motherboard ( if you prefer ATI Cards) or SLI motherboards ( if you prefer Nvidia Cards). You get to upgrade more with less money later on.

4670 is a great card. But right now, the prices seem to be increasing due to this dang dollar value. Wouldn't recommend buying now. I am waiting till december, hoping prices will reduce significantly.

If you go for an upgrade, I would recommend putting 2 GB RAM atleast
I am very average Gamer or you can say a weekend gamer but i am doing this for my younger bro as he is more into games as compared to me.

a very laymen question what exactly is the difference between the two motherboards that you mentioned?? and which one would you recommend.??

Any idea when we can expect the launch of 80GB PS3??

If you put these motherboards, then you can instead of wasting your old card next time you upgrade, you can buy another one of the same config and put two cards on the same motherboard. It will help bump your performance. ATI needs motherboards with CROSSFIRE support whereas NVIDIA needs SLI.

          • @Torque: If I may take the leverage of answering your query.

Simply put, both these (Crossfire & SLI) are multi-GPU technology whereby you could use more than one GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in a PC. ATi call their technology 'Crossfire' while NVIDIA call theirs SLI (Scalable Link Interface).

It is the simplest explanation for the above terms. Any compatible motherboard could use more than one same type of GPU, just incase you plan to upgrade in the future..

Hope that clears up things somewhat.

            • @Pranay: A 400W power-supply would do just fine for the 9600GT as far as I can tell you.. As for the cost, well, I am not so sure whether it would be under 2k or more than that. But, one piece of advice I would give you is - try and avoid local PSUs as they really don't do their job properly. Get one of the "Cooler Master" power supplies if possible. You might need to increase your budget a little, but rest assured you would be getting peace of mind with the power supply as well!

If you seriously think about it, keeping in mind the long-term investments as well, then there is every reason that you wait for the 80GB PS3 and go for that instead of buying a PC now and upgrading it every 8-10 months..

I mean, seriously, think about it - say you invest 15k over a graphics card at this point of time, and before you can fully utilize that card, the manufacturer (be it NVIDIA or ATi) releases another seemingly better card. You might not "want" to upgrade but you would "have" to if you want to play the latest games with all the bells and whistles!

This is sad, but a true fact of a PC gamer's life..

You can find "P" games for the PS3 as well although I have no idea whether the PS3 is "cracked" to run those "P" games or not...

I heard bad things from people who bought the original pre release version either from dealers or direct download from eastore. they say that the graphics are not even upto the mark of nfs mw.
