              • Radeon HD 5870 or GTX300

                Hi,

I am planning to go for the latest G-card for my PC, did few research and found that there are to major options NVDIA or ATI which supports the latest direct x 11, with Radeon HD 5870 or GTX300. Which one to go for and which is the best NVDIA / ATI ?

At the moment only ATI has its 5xxx series of cards for sale. The GT300 series is taped out but yet to make it to production, possibly will launch Q1 of 2010.

So if you want a DX11 capable GPU then it is only the HD 5xxx series.
Or perhaps you can buy an older card now, for cheap, and then upgrade to whichever card wins the price/performance battle when GT300 releases and price cuts abound.

If you really don't care about the cost then a 5870 can be had for ~26K.

But what I think, The 5xxx series is only compatible with DDR5 Memory Slots and these are not yet available in India so what would be the option ?

Either to wait for these to come or buying an older version (Which One ?).

The DDR5 is on the graphics card. The card itself will fit on all standard motherboards that we get nowadays, for Core 2 Duo/Quad/i3/i5/Phenom II etc processors. And these motherboards have slots for either DDR2 or DDR3. DDR5 is used only for GPU's as of now, so all 5xxx series cards are compatible with current PC's.

As of now the 5xxx series are costly. You can decide which one to go for: If you are going to play the latest games(which use DX11) on 19" or 22" or bigger monitors then maybe the 5xxx series, otherwise a 4890 or a GTX 275 will be more than sufficient.
