I've personally used normal unleaded petrol (whatever octane that might be, 87 or something I guess) and xTra Premium (91 octane). In both the occassions, with sane riding (between 55-65km/hr.), I am getting anywhere between 48 and 52 kilometres to a litre on my P-200!Originally posted by moeed View Post

Believe it or not: Oil cheaper than packaged water!
Source: The Times Of India.Believe it or not: Oil cheaper than packaged water
Black Gold has lost its sheen, and how! Today, the cost of a litre of petrol or diesel for Indian oil majors is less than the price of the
bottle of packaged water that you buy.
Back-of-the-envelope calculations show that a litre of petrol costs about Rs 11 and diesel about Rs 13, excluding transportation and sundry other charges etc. In contrast, you pay Rs 12-15 for a one-litre bottle of water.
Here's how the arithmetic goes: A barrel of crude oil contains about 190 litres. At $38 a barrel, the current price in the international market, each litre of crude works out to Rs 10, taking the exchange rate at Rs 50 to a dollar.
On an average, approximately 28-29 litres of petrol and 85 litres of diesel are refined from each barrel of crude.
Admittedly, this figure can vary according to the type of crude being processed and the technology deployed in a refinery. So how much would the price of a litre of motor fuel be after incurring the cost of refining, if there were no other charges?
The calculation is so mind-boggling that sometimes even executives of oil marketing companies get confused by the myriad central and state taxes - levied at incremental rates - and complex charges such as "freight equalisation levy'' and dealer margins, etc. Such levies taken together constitute 45-55% of the sale price of petrol or diesel.
So if petrol costs a little over Rs 45 a litre in Delhi pumps, taxes and levies make up about Rs 22 and another Rs 12 constitutes the oil-marketing firm's profit. That leaves a basic cost of about Rs 11 per litre. Similarly, at Rs 32 a litre - the Delhi price of diesel - the actual cost can be taken as Rs 13 as the companies are making a profit of almost Rs 3 a litre.
These calculations are admittedly simplistic and do not take into account other products such as kerosene, jet fuel, cooking gas, naphtha, etc., that are produced along with petrol and diesel and have a bearing on the final cost of each product. However, there won't be big difference between these figures and the figures worked out by the industry.
With crude projected to slide further in the coming days as the global slowdown gets a firmer grip on industry and pushes demand further down, the obvious question is: When will our pump prices go down further?:)

^^ Read that first thing in the morning and spent the next half hour abusing the government for eating away our taxes and giving us lunar landscapes in place of good roads...
One litre of BPCL's finest spirit in regular form costs 51.30/- in Bangalore.
Dada.. You pay 7.Rs lesser per litre than i do

Bangalore has one of the highest tax structure for almost everything and still the roads are in such a pathetic shape that you have to additionally pay for maintenance of your bike.(Bent Alloys, loose steering column and screwd-up shock absorbers!!). Even the load shedding has become a usual affair from past couple of months. So much so for the Silicon Valley of India, duh!!

Same case with AP too.Originally posted by chicane1879 View PostBangalore has one of the highest tax structure for almost everything and still the roads are in such a pathetic shape that you have to additionally pay for maintenance of your bike.(Bent Alloys, loose steering column and screwd-up shock absorbers!!). Three times I changed cone set of my Zma. Luckily, did not get any bent alloys, maybe due to high quality of alloys. I witnessed many cases of bent alloys in the recent past due to bad roads.

Petrol Prices Slashed by 5 rupees
Taking cue from his leader's remark, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora squeezed in a proposal before the Cabinet for a cut in petrol prices by Rs 5 a litre, diesel by Rs 2 a litre and cooking gas LPG by Rs 25 a cylinder with effect from Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi told a rally that she hoped that petrol prices would be reduced soon. "The prices of petroleum products have decreased recently and I expect that soon they will dip further."
Sources said that though the proposal to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs -- which meets on Wednesday evening -- provides the option of taking auto fuel pricing out of government realm, it was likely to be left for the next government that would be in place in June after general elections.
The second option, which has the political consent, for the CCEA is to bring down petrol prices by Rs 5, diesel by Rs 2 and LPG by Rs 25, they said. Deora, however, maintained that a decision on the exact reductions would be decided at the CCEA.
The pricing issue is usually decided by a smaller Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs but that was not slated for Wednesday, said sources.
The CCEA would also approve that as an interim measure, the Finance Ministry would provide Rs 44,967 crores worth of oil bonds as the government's share of under-recoveries, upstream companies would yield Rs 25,929 crores as discounts on crude oil and LPG to oil marketing companies, and the OMCs absorb Rs 21, 957 crores in their balance sheet.
The state-run OMCs suffered Rs 92,853 crores as under-recoveries in the first half of this fiscal year as government held on to prices despite a sharp surge in global crude oil prices.
Crude oil had climbed to a record high of $147 a barrel in July, but has since come down to $40 a barrel prompting the government to cut petrol prices on December 5 by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 2 a litre.

Hmmm.. well, I have two bikes running in reserve now
Also, ET says the story a little different -
Govt may cut petrol price by Rs 4 & diesel by Re one a lit
You get it about 5-6 rupees cheaper than us! may be we can smuggle some petrol from Delhi.... even better, hope our bikes can run on aviation fuel! that attracts only 4% tax here in AP as against abt 35% in petrolOriginally posted by Aryan View PostTopic Merged.
Yes, I have been hearing this news for a little while now. If the petrol prices are indeed slashed by Rs.5/-, that would make normal fuel at Rs.40/- per litre, here in Delhi!
