  • looking for a decent 150cc

hey guys just help me all these posts are really confusing me to choose hence i start a new thread.
i am going to change my first gen unicorn to a new bike from the 150cc segment and all these new launches have really confused every1.
i use my bike to go to college daily and ride the bike pretty well. like to challenge other bikes nd casually race. also i would like a bike which will be a good tourer too as some day i would love to take the bike and go for a long trip with my friends...
    help me choose between:
1: Yamaha FZ16 (think its really gud but relatively new hence not sure)
2: TVS Apache RTR-Fi (just cant make up my mind to go for a tvs bike,
god knows why i just dont like the brand tvs)
3: Honda Unicorn ( really reliable and good)

      hi
      1. The FZ16 : it isnt the fastest 150, so u might end up loosing sometimes when u race. but on all other accounts, it is good. fairly comfortable, can cruise at 80-85kmph quite well, and looks awesome
      2. the RTR : the fastest around, but aint too comfy for long rides. the sporty riding position isnt to everyone;s liking..
      3. Unicorn : why go for the same bike again?

Why not have a look at the new Suzuki GS150R (gs150r.blogspot.com) and wait for a while before it hits the showrooms. I think there is a waiting period on the FZ16. Plus the GS150R will be cheaper than FZ and the RTR too.

As the thread title speaks "decent" 150 then only one thing comes to mind --the GSR150.This bike looks good has loads of features and above all it's a SUZUKI.So no questions on refinement, economy and overall performance. I bet the bike will spring in more surprises once it gets on road.

What about Pulsar 150 ? Either P150 or I would say go for Hunk or CBZ Extreme.

@Yam (below post): Lol. I was kidding bro . I wish I could move on. Aah..classic pulsar and classic lovers...hard to move on . I will still go for a Pulsar Classic if they were still selling it. New gen 150s don't excite me much.

leon : i know u have the first gen p150, but frankly, its time to move on. Bajaj's profits have been going down each month, and the p150 has become dated now. even the showroom people are admiting that p150 sales are all time low... the competition, it seems, has moved on...

RTR FI any day dude if you like performance to the "e" of it...........
honda is reliable, smooth but 'boring'..............

and about FZ16it's good but comparitively lot less performance as the RTR FI but it has the same initials the rossi's bike has...................."YAMAHA"(.............perio d)

FZ16 - Not good for racing in 150cc segment , It has awesome torque , awesome look : naked type with sporty wide tyres , which will attract your college collegues attention lol :P. Riding is pretty good. Above all Yamaha......

TVS APACHE RTR : If you like to race in 150cc segment - This bike is for you : Its good to stunt also , but tyres suck... Me myself didn't like TVS brand..(Nothing Offensive , its personal view).

Honda Unicorn : Very good bike , smooth and overall honda , If you like to go again with honda and just want a change then go for "Unicorn Grand Prix Edition". Pretty cool but can't match the look of fz16 and apache sporty looks.

CBZ EXTREME & HUNK : Too much common bike. But its HH , If you are HH fan go for cbz extreme (Didn't like HH except zma).

                  Rest is upto you.

i would recomend you the following

FZ15 - best looking bike in the class , millege is low compared to other bikes
not good for racing , awsome for city riding , good for touring 500+ km..
if you are in co-ed college then i am sure girls will be taking a ride with you ,,
so personally i didnt find its rear seat very comfortable and not enough space to sit properly .. for a sole rider ..it rocks in looks

RTR-FI - well basically i HATE TVS but i love RTR-FI .. it has everything a college guy wants .. if you race and do stunts you will be the king of them in no time .. personally no other 150 segment bike can beat RTR [ i am not praising the bike ,just sharing my experience]if you are experienced enough you can even beat a p200
                        so think about it

uni - ahhhh .. the best bike for city and tours ,, smooth as butter ,,
but you cant win any races and the looks needs to be modified a bit ..

personally i dont think that suzuki will be a hit .. it dosent even have average looks

but i dont think that the tyre sucks
its grip is not good while wet but on dry tarmac i can easily try to scrap my knee pads on the road

                          1. FZ16 : Just Looks awesome. Underpowered, dont try drags with other 150s, u'll loose. Very unconfy pillion seat. Handle is Yuksss...
                          n "plz VISIT the forum on Yamaha FZ16",/>>> Yamaha FZ-16 ( 1 2 3 ... Last Page)
u'll kno all the features good n bad, n problems faced by owners....

                          2. Apache RTR : MY CHOICE. One of the fastest fastest. Sporty riding position. Awesum engine n the BEST in its class...

                          3. Unicorn : Dull n Boring, the same old stuff. not good fer drags but yes u can say very good fer city riding (Apache is as good as well)...

But dude even Hunk is not bad! But still I'll suggest RTR...

i like the new yamaha but by ur replies it seems ull rate the rtr-fi higher than the new fz-16. do you guys say that the performance of fz-16 will not be as promising as the rtr-fi. i just love the refinement of the unicorn engine can i expect the same from rtr-fi....

For someone as young as you, RTR FI it would be. Trust me, Yamaha FZ16 maybe a good (looking) bike, but it has it's own fair share of problems (lack of FI, weak horn, paint finish on alloy wheels, handlebar not upto the mark, battery draining, almost every pillion rider who will ride with you will complain about the lack of space and how uncomfortable they feel/ felt and more) and the attitude of Yamaha as a company in India and the attitude of Yamaha Dealers/ service centres is just rotten/ too high-headed. If it must be a Yamaha 150cc in India, then look only at the R15. The technology R15 is loaded with makes you forget about the "attitude problems" the Yamaha family has in India.

PS: I'm thinking of selling my FZ16 and buying either a RTR FI or a R15.

I don't race, I don't perform stunts, I don't cut across lanes and/ or cut other vehicles, I love to wear my helmet and follow traffic rules/ laws and I prefer safety over surprise... If that is boring and/ or sissy as per you, so be it.
