Right!
I have no idea on opening an engine case, leave alone restoring anything.
Honestly, I thought the restoring could take around 25-30k. Read someone say 1k. Dropping those plans for now.
Will go to my native in June. Will talk to the owner, not for me but the long list of RD fans who PMed a deep interest in buying the one offered to me.__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______

Just pickup the bike, smear it with oil and dump it in some corner of your property till u figure out what to do with it! Junk RD's go for way more than that! If you get bored of the idea of doing it up, you can sell it on one of the RD communities on FB for around 20-25k.
Restoring a RD doesnt cost an arm and a leg as most people make it to be! Of course its not cheap, but its not that expensive either. Learn to wrench instead of relying on a mech or you'll be taken for a ride like 90% of RD owners have been!!!
Parts are still available but mostly used! I got everything from a unused chassis(6k) to a used motor(15k) from Siyal motors in bangalore!!
I am actually quite skeptical about this 12k bike! How about some pics?
Why do i get the feeling you are right? BUt i have heard of people running their RD's on one cylinder to save on fuel!Originally posted by Shreeni0403 View PostSomehow my senses say its a Rajdoot 175, not a RD.
Which Doodhwala will spend so much on Kerosene for 17-18kmpl (max)

You are just choosing the hard way by replying to unknown topics with such confidence!Originally posted by w4rrior View Postsorry about that, i think restoring a RD is a really awesome thing even though it takes lots of time and patience. So i thought the threadstarter should buy it. I apologize everyone for i'm wrong.
aaaargee ma man! Its simple da! RD's arent that easily available thanks to the guys who lap up all the bikes that can find and stack them up for future sale! Some people are willing to pay obscene amounts for a RD just to tell people they have one + they give a damn about fuel efficiency and there are some people who just take advantage of this! I know this guy who spends no more than 80k(bike + good cosmetic resto) and sells the damn thing for 1.3-1.5L. He has taken most of Mangalore's surviving RD's to Blore and sold them there!Originally posted by aargee View PostEdit - Just had a thought; if buying a RD is about 20-30K & restoration costs another 20-30K, why would the selling price be close to 1.5L? Or worst case, if it were that easy to make money on this, then why isn't everyone doing it? Give it a thought!!!

People, I may not know anything about bike-restoration, but I sure as hell can differentiate between the two.Originally posted by James View PostJust pickup the bike, smear it with oil and dump it in some corner of your property till u figure out what to do with it! Besides, there's a '94 Rajdoot 175 lying back home in my native (which some duck offered 7k for and grandpa almost agreed. Cuz of my hardcore intervention he could only 'almost' agree).
I'll upload pics the next time I'm there (June). Lemme know if its worth any restoration or juz pure metal junk.
Meanwhile, I'd be glad if you Seniors could help me learn how to go about a restoration.
Thanx in advance!__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______

A little bit of running around the RTO and greasing a few hands and you can get the bike re-registered.Originally posted by ABikerAtHeart View PostBut how will I manage without papers?

What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

Add me too in the RD droolers list
Whats the need of Yamaha dealer here? All you need is to find out the registered owner of the bike. If he is dead then someone in his blood relation can help you to issue papers. Only thing you need is a good RTO agent and some extra bucks to spend, Papers will be there in your hand.Originally posted by ABikerAtHeart View PostAny Yamaha dealer here?
Problem arises when you don't know what you are doing. Relying on regular mechanics won't help in RD's case. Parts can be procured easily if you have some links but it will need a deep pocket and calm mind.
Crazy figures like 2L-2.5L are nowhere linked to reality(Atleast for a stock stuff RD). A decent RD will cost you within 60k with proper restoration. Also, don't get into buying-reparing-selling thing, Better sell the bike as it is to somebody worthy including your commission if really wanted.Bikes don't leak oil, They mark their territory.
