  • Need suggestions about choosing a bike.

    Hi everybody,
I am 18 years old..and just finished my board exams...
My height is 6 ft, 1 inch and my weight is 85kgs...
I am planning to buy a bike for myself..my budget is Rs. 1 lakhs(on road price)..
I have not ridden much bikes as of now..so i need all your suggestions.
I need to have in my bike:--
    1. Fair looks
    2. decent mileage(atleast 35)
    3. riding comfort
    4. good handling

I will ride mostly in city(a few kms everyday) and on rare occasions outside of it..
My mom will also ride with me RARELY..so it should be suitable for that also..I am not much of a speed freak.
I have shortlisted the following bikes:--

    1.pulsar 150
    2. pulsar 180
    3.pulsar 200ns
    4.pulsar 220
    5.apache rtr 160
    6.apache rtr 180
    7.yamaha fz
    etc...

I do not have any preferance for any bike in particular...so you guys should suggest me the suitable one..
You MAY suggest any OTHER bike..

    LESSER the cost,BETTER for me!!

    awaiting your reply!!

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Since you are looking for pillion comfort for your mom, 200NS, FZ and Fazer won't suit suit the need. Again, since you are looking for a economical, comfortable and practical bike, I'd suggest you the Suzuki GS150 or the Yamaha SZ-R. Both the 150cc bikes are pretty capable with plenty of pull, have good passenger/pillion ocmfort and offer good Fuel Economy. If you are not comfortable with a 150, you can consider the Karizma R which is a time-tested performer.

You can still consider the Apache/P220, though it's agood idea to start with a 150cc and upgrade later, especially if you are not well experienced.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

I did not like gs150 or sz-r...they dont have looks, enough power..And i need mileage of atleast 35 ,i do not want 50!Suggest Better bikes please!
I have ridden my dad's tvs victor for 1 year now...so experience should not be a problem.

 true..even I didn't like GS150R and SZ-R. I had owned a Pulsar 135 for around 2yrs and now I own Fazer. The upgrade is indeed great, but you have to sacrifice pillion comfort on Fazer/FZ.though the new gen FZ has a bigger rear seat for added comfort. 220 is great vfm product, as also NS. If u are new to riding a bike,go for a non-faired bike.

Agree with bbsrailfan that Fz,Fazer and NS will be totally uncomfortable for you and your mom AFAIK and i m also 6'1"
you can have in your list karizma r which is a good bike and highly comfortable.it satisfies all your needs.
the other choices in preference can be apache 180 ABS -> pulsar 220 -> pulsar 180 and in lower cc i.e. 150cc you can have Hunk/Extreme -> Dazzler -> apache 160 -> Unicorn.

i cannot trust the 200ns as it is new..also it will be a waste as i will not be driving above 90 or 100 kmph..also as it is my first bike,i would like to keep it decent. Not so expensive..i would like to keep it under 85k unless p220 or 200ns is wayyyy better than p180 or apache rtr 180 etc...
So please suggest under 85k if possible.

Above 6 height - Apache out
Pillion Comfort - Fz series out
                  Lady pillion - 200NS out
Other commuterish 150cc(Sz, GS) - Rejected
Take CBZ extreme or Dazzler - Good looks, Pillion comfort, Nice performance. Rear Disc is a bonus.

I have not seen many ppl listing CBZ on the forums here.. but that was the bike which changed Indian City-biking scenario.

Then your shortlists should be Hunk >> ZMA-R >> P220

Zma-R is a very good bike, However technically its not advanced like other bikes, but it is one of the best performance bikes around. Its been a Decade today, karizma has been ruling the hearts of many bikers.
Comfort is one among the biggest essence of this bike. One of the most comfortable bikes i have ever ridden & i dont have any problem in saying that it will be comfortable for a lady pillion too. Because of its soft, wider seat, comfort levels are much better than other bikes + Saree guard, which is an entire feature of zero risk for a lady pillion to sit.
Refined engine, Great power, fun to ride and a decent mileage of 37-38 kmpl for a 223cc bike.
Zma-R is now 94k onroad in most cities, however it may vary from place to place.
