• Replacement for Pulsar 150 ---- Honda Trigger or TB350 ?

Hi Fellow bikers,

A big HI from me to all fellow riders. I have been following numerous posts since a year or so but got an account only this year. Anyways, I am here to ask you for your opinion about my next bike.
A little history about my affair with my current bike : Its been 6 years since I own my Pular-150 UG3. I loved this bike even since it was launched back in 2001 and my dream came true in 2007 and have clocked 74000 km till date. The bike is fantastic, no performance issue so far. I have always loved my bike and it has loved me back; always had serviced it from Authorized Service Centre. The problem I am facing is physical: my back aches even after 30 min of ride, I got skid twice recently due to inaccurate disk braking (my riding gears saved me though), my wrists are always in pain etc. Now, I am too scared to take it even to my office, taking out on highways is not at all an option to me now. Now I am looking for a replacement of this bike, but no pulsars this time.

My most important priority to choose my next bike are :

Based on my requirements, I have opted for Honda CB Trigger CBS and Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350. I know they fall under different category, but still. I have a great infatuation towards RE TB since the day I have driven it, and so I am thinking I should go for it if I plan it to own for next 10 years (I am 29 now). but then the cost and most importantly, waiting period is keeping me away from it. Next obvious choice is Honda with its reliability and CBS feature.
• Revised budget to accommodate Thunderbird : Rs 1.5 lacs

Guys, need your advice for my selection and any other based on above criteria. Any contacts with Pune RE dealers to get TB350 as quickly as possible, if I go got it.
moderators : Kindly merge this to existing thread
Thanks so much in advance.

Happy and Safe riding,
Rohit.

Re: Replacement for Pulsar 150 ---- Honda Trigger or TB350 ?

I'm 5'7 and I don't like city commuting on a TB, here everybody violates biker's right of the way so a machine that has good flickability is important. If you are ready to spend upto 1.5 lakh rupees, why don't you try a KTM 200 Duke? It's fun and got more than adequate power for highway rides. I have had back pain since I was a kid (Damn you kyphosis) and I think any bike will give you pain if you ride for over 30 minutes if you have back problems, better switch to a 4 wheeler in that case. The wrist pain may be due to RSI (Repetitive strain injury) or at worst CTS (Carpel tunnel syndrome), I have RSI so I stopped riding and doing any hard work for about 2 years and the pain stopped, and check out your computer mouse too, sometimes bad computer mouse causes RSI too. About the brake, you should always check for proper brake adjustment and wear on the pads regularly. You can not judge a company's after purchase service by the behavior and workmanship of one ASC, you should try other service centers around your area to see if all Bajaj ASCs in your area is bad in service. More or less all the ASCs of all the companies are same, thy provide bad service and charge too much. I have been to every manufacturer's ASCs around here and all are crappy. Better learn to service yourself, have been doing that for years with no problem and with great satisfaction. Again, looking at your physical condition, I'd say, take the public transport to commute for 3 months and ten buy a Nano and after like few years, think about a bike.

OT: Beware of any therapy and ayurvedic medicine that calims to cure back pain, nothing works and you are stuck with it for years if not for good.
I am back!

Hello Mr. Cleaner,

Thanks so much for your detailed advice, never ever expected more than 2 lines

I will surely test drive Duke 200.... as far as I read the reviews, its not a settled bike, it likes and performs best on higher speeds. I am a boy of comfort, not eager to be at 1st after that green light. It surely is around my budget though.

I will check if my wrist pain is a result of RSI or CTS, its only my left wrist which pains after i try to bend it past 90 degrees, probably more due to frequent gear shifts and my wrist-arm angle. I am an IT guy, so not lots of physical work to do.
My love for bikes and the freedom it gives me cannot be replaced with 4 wheels. I have Honda Brio for commuting and Bajaj Pulsar for enjoying the road !!!!

I completely agree to you that ASC's are never reliable and probably I should start making my hands dirty and start digging my bike more.

Thanks again for all your advice, I will surely take your pie of dealing the pain but cannot forget biking anytime soon.

Happy and Safe riding,
Rohit

Duke is not for you mate. The suspension is hard. Drop RE as well. It would add to you back pain. Mind you,Pulsars had one of the best shocks(among the dual shocks), hence there aint much replacement in its class. I can recomend you only the Unicorn(or Trigger:Hopefully if Trigger has the same set up) and the FZ. choose among these two. You would never get wrong. two are the most comfortable bike available right now.

I find it strange that nobody has mentioned the Avenger here? Keeping in view your need for a comfortable bike which is good for city+highways, I think that should definitely be in your list.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Hi Sambit,

Thanks pal for your reply. Completely heart-broken for not recommending RE, I wonder why it is tagged as Touring Bike. Any more hands-up for not recommending me RE?

I like Honda Unicorn too but its not stylish, so I sorted out new CB Trigger. I will test ride it this weekend and share my thoughts. I will checkout FZ too but more inclined towards Trigger.

Apart from that, any more upcoming bikes I should be eyeing on which meets my needs.

Thanks.

Avenger is obvious choice for touring but its wheelbase is an issue for me, specially front wheels; they are really long front suspension too, so handling in traffic would be tricky for me.

you can opt for karizma/ZMR. comfortable ride.

even bullets with spring mounted seats are quite comfortable, i mean desert storm type. in fact RE's offer the most soft and plush ride than any other bike. so they are quite comfortable and at moderate speeds soaks up city poptholes like a volvo.

Mate RE is too good on highways. But for city it is not so good because you can't cut through just like that even if you are sedate.
For your purpose I recommend CB Trigger, I am riding Unicorn and had a short TD of Trigger. It is very light, smooth and handles better in city.
But don't expect Honda after sales any better. Otherwise you will be disappointed.
Cheers.

Hi Sir Prince,

Nice to interact with you again.

I remember you gave me reference of Mr Anwar / Mr. Mohsin last time, though I didn't contacted them. I just replaced clutch plate - pressure plate from Hadapsar ASS and the gear shifts have become very rough from that time, false neutral is normal when shifting from 1st to 2nd; electrical issues were not at all addressed. be it anywhere - Shivaji Ngr, Wakad, Chinchwad, Hadapsar...etc etc, the most they care if their parts being sold and huge service charges. Should I contact your references and get bike serviced?

About my selection, the fact that Classic models looks bulky on me is most imp reason I stay away from them. Same with ZMR too. I like Thunderbird more due to seat height, better lights, more stylish looks. Do you think Thunderbird will make a good choice for me ?

I am anyways going to test ride Honda CB Trigger first and then Thunderbird, along with my cousin for a better opinion.

Happy and Safe riding,

Dude, Back pain was the reason, why my dad sold off his RE350. For a normal back, RE is a very comfortable bike. But for problematic spines, its a curse. My dad has a very bad back. He doesnt ride bikes much. In urgency, he takes his old HH Dawn(He even says, my StaR city hurts his back . And he never touches my RTR) And he loves riding my uncle's Unicorn. Thats why, I recomended him Uni/Trigger or FZ( which I feel is even better than Uni)

As a previous TB owner.

You mentioned reliability as your requirement. I would recommend you to skip TB350, its anything but reliable.

Your budget is 1.5 lakh then I would recommed you Honda CBR250R.
I have recently bought it after selling my less than a year old TB350!

If you can do with a stiffer ride and do not have a pillion, KTM Duke 200 is also a nice option.

Bro make a wise decision.
RE is a mental bike, if you ride it, you wanna buy it. That's it!

I had hell lot of a problems that made me sell my TB in less than a year!
Honda and KTM are very refined and reliable. Go for it.

well.. if Reliability and wrist pain are part of you.. then stay away from RE.. RE produces too much of vibrations from everywhere and your wrist will pain like anything.. you already mentioned wrist pain.. I don't understand why people say RE is very comfortable and they call it a tourer.. A tourer shouldn't have vibrations.. Ok.. atleast not much.. but the RE is a hell to me.. that noise which I can't even bear in my ears.. hummmm.. have you tried the Karizma.. if not.. I would recommend you test ride it.. its one hell of a machine.. good sitting posture.. good tourer and less vibrations.. and yeah.. the most important of all.. reliability factor...

CBR250 is pretty neat stuff too.. Duke is a great bike too.. but the suspension is on the harder side which can possibly cause back pain.. I personally didn't like the Duke 200 for some reason..

Why don't you try out the P200NS?? any reason why you didn't opt it??

After Sales service is horrible everywhere.. I have had worst experience with HMC ASC..

Yup!
How can I forget about Karizma ZMR!
Its VFM is unbeatable. For 1lakh 5000 on road, it gives u a relaxed posture, mature 223cc engine, and a good suspension.
Its worth every penny.

But still if u can stretch till 1.5 then CBR250R is gem of a machine.
